Pretty good Dooms-Day flick. In a narration by Charlton Heston, he tells about how the dinosaurs were wiped out 68 million years ago when an asteroid barely six miles across hit the earth. Now we have a real problem. a deep space collision between a comet and an asteriod has bumped pieces towards Earth. A whole bunch of small pieces the size of cars are headed for the U.S. east coast and Finland, and one piece the size of a battleship is headed for Singapore. The bad news is that there is another one, and it will be here in eighteen days. . .one the size of Texas, and it will kill everything on Earth. . .Everything! There is only one chance, and it is a small chance. The plan is for NASA to get a crew of oil drillers up there, and successfully land on this thing. If they could land in just the right spot, they can drill into it and plant a nuclear weapon at a certain depth, they can destroy the asteroid. Well, that is the plan. . . Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck, Billy Bob Thornton, and Liv Tyler all star in this action filled roller-coaster. As usual, everything goes wrong but the good-Ol'-boys come through and save the world. This is a good movie with a lot humor surrounding a pretty serious subject. The film runs 151 minutes, and is non stop action.Read full review
Out of all the movies I've ever seen in my life, this is my all-time favorite. It's funny, it's sad, it's action-filled, it's overall GREAT. Basically, a huge asteroid is heading towards Earth and when it hits, it will cause a holocaust--all living things will die, and not even bacteria will be able to survive the blow. The asteroid is too big to be blown off course by something on the surface, not even if it's a nuclear weapon. They decide that the only way to save the Earth is to actually drill 8000 feet into the asteriod and drop a bomb inside it, causing the rock to split and the halves to miss Earth. Harry Stamper, played by Bruce Willis, head of an oil-drilling team, is called upon to lead the mission to the asteriod, as the drill being used is one he designed. He and his team - A.J. (Ben Affleck), Rockhound (Steve Buscemi), Oscar (Owen Wilson), Bear (Michael Clarke Duncan), and many more, train for weeks to go into space and complete their mission. The plot may be a bit far-fetched, but it is played out wonderfully by a great cast. The script was written with a lot of talent, and it really shows through with intense drama and hilarious wit. I love this movie, it makes me laugh and cry and sit on the edge of my seat every time I watch it. I would reccomend it to ANYONE.Read full review
A low earth orbit space station is in the middle of a repair mission with the space shuttle when an unforeseen meteor shower obliterates them both. This sudden event sends fireballs hurtling to Earth and scientists scurrying to telescopes. An amateur astronomer is the first to spy a gigantic fireball headed towards the planet and notifies NASA. Turner (Thornton) informs the president of the asteroid and describes it as being "the size of Texas," a planet-killer. With eighteen days to impact, NASA frantically tries to find a solution but ends up turning to an outside contractor. Harry Stamper (Willis) and his team of oilmen are called upon to save the planet as only they can., Michael Bay, the master of the big-budget blockbuster, directs this action film that is packed with emotion. With a planet-killing asteroid on a collision course with Earth, it's up to a motley crew of scientists and oil drillers (yes, oil drillers) to save the earth. With 18 days to impact, a team from NASA (led by Billy Bob Thornton) frantically tries to find a solution but ends up turning to an outside contractor. Harry Stamper (Bruce Willis) and his team of oilmen are called upon to save the planet as only they can. ARMAGEDDON may boast impressive special effects, but it's the cast--including Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler, Steve Buscemi, and Owen Wilson--that gives the film its humor and heart. Tyler's father Steven Tyler and his band Aerosmith contributed the Oscar-nominated hit "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" to the soundtrack. Asteroids hitting the Earth! Someone has gotta save the planet! Filled with drama, action, comedy! Surely a one not to miss. If you're a Bruce Willis Fan, Ben Afleck fan this one is to watch. A Highly Recommended Film! Enjoy with a screwdriver~!~~~~~Read full review
