I haven't been to a church since the early 1990's I was barely 13 the last time I went. For over 20 years I had been lost to the word of God. Ever since I was little I had always loved archaeology and the history of the ancient world. To this day I love reading the tales of ancient Greece philosophers Socrates Plato Aristotle. Even learning ancient scholar's teaching's such as Archimedes. The Bible for me was often thought of as "one of those books" when I would hear of it spoken of. The Lord knows I was quite the backslidden Christian. I never lost my faith entirely to God or his word, but after decades of not reading or learning his word I often saw the bible as a book for men by men rather then what it could be. My wife and I had a change of thought and heard in recent months and decided to delve into religious cultures and texts rather then her books of Highschool vampires and modern fairy tales. She knew I had a love for history and peoples of the world and decided to get me the Archaeological Bible which was a change for me. She had wanted to get more religiously spiritual and wanted me to share with her in the experiences. At first I was skeptical but loving my wife and wanting to spend some quality time reading and comparing the Bibles texts and learning about the facts learned of the ancient world I decided to try the Archaeological Bible as she read from her own NIV version. I found the mini articles fascinating inside as I learned much more inside the Archaeological Bible. From the insights into ancient digs that were found to the way text was recorded from different ancient peoples. The Bible's stories that I had remembered from my past now came to me in a new light. God's word that had seemed to be more of a teacher handing me an assignment to learn now reflected the cultural and economical landscapes that painted the ancient world in which it was written. After a few weeks of reading I moved past light casual reads and now I become engrossed in the Bibles stories and tales of the Lord's word for hours on end. I become so excited when I think of the lessons and records of the Bible now rather then my unexcited response I would give when asked if I've ever read the bible. I respond with "I've read THE Bible." To which many give a questioned look as if I'm about whip a soap box out and start spouting scripture. I love the Archaeological bible far more then I nor my wife who purchased it for me thought I would. I thank God for him blessing me with her, a beautiful wife that nudged me back into God's word. Love is a great way to describe the kind of feeling you get when you read the scripture and get to see texts of ancient allies and enemies whom took place in the passages my eyes had just scrolled over. No longer did the bible seem to be a separate religious text when I read the Archaeological Bible it seemed more of part of the history of the world and gives the insights into God's word as it effected the leaders and people who would shape the ancient world's landscape. I talked up the Archaeological Bible so much my mother who continues to go to church decided to pick it up and she's just as smitten with it as I was. I didn't think reading God's word could rekindle the spark of passion for my religion as this bible could but I can't deny it's there. After 2 decades of being a backslidden follower of God my wife and I have decided to start returning to church again, taking our Archaeological Bibles of course.Read full review

while i have read my KJV Bible(s) 32 times in my lifetime, besides reading the new testament over 70 times and in between studies with prayer, i was elated to find and receive this study bible. the archaeological notes and additional information will make it exciting to read again. i dove into it immediately, beginning with one of my most favorite books-Ephesus. i thank the Holy Ghost for bringing this to my attention. and now...if you will forgive me...back to my new Bible.
Very pleased all the way around & need another KJV Archeological Bible!
