Very reliable dual band (2.4 and 5 GHz) wireless b/g/n router that is simple to set up and configure (thanks to Airport Utility on either Mac or PC). Gigabit ethernet is a big plus and it handles IPv6 too. Puts out decent signal strength on both bands, but docked a star since newer routers with more antennas (this one has 3) have even better coverage (including via beamforming for the 802.11ac units) and throughput. Of course, many if not most with not need more range or throughput I'd suspect. Nevertheless, this is a great router either as a primary or as an extender (roaming or repeating), which is also ridiculously simple to set up through Airport Utility (e.g., you never have to log in to its IP page to configure, automatic notifications for firmware updates, etc.). Said utility is available for Apple and Android phones/tablets. I'd imagine they work best in an Apple ecosystem.Read full review

The Apple Airport Extreme 5th generation router is solid and reliable. It is the first 802.11n router that I have had any luck with at all. All the others, mostly Netgear, either never worked out of the box or worked fine for a month or so then crapped out. The set up is relatively simple using the Airport utility on my Mac. Since I got my router used, I elected to do a total factory reset. You have to be careful the way you use the factory reset. I found that if you do the reset and then power the unit down before configuring it on your network, it powers back up on the previous set up, not in the factory default mode. There is no mention of that in any documentation I read about the Extreme. I could not get it to set up using the App on my iPad. Maybe I did something wrong but nothing happened when I tried using it. Once the router was set up and operational on my network using my mac, the iPad App worked fine. In fact, the iPad App appears to be the only way you can do a WPS. Apparently Apple removed that capability on the Mac utility. I am using Yosemite and I found no provision for WPS. No big whoop but WPS can save time especially on all the web cams I have all over the place. Overall, I would recommend this unit for those who want a simple, basic WiFi router that just plain works and works well.Read full review

This is not the latest greatest model of the airport extreme but not many computers can take advantage of the next generation Wi-Fi tweaks. If a good n class router is all you need, then this is what you need.

Product arrived one day after I ordered it. I set up the apple router same day it arrived. It has worked without issue since I set it up in our office building.
