The results were what I had hoped for. I now have a smooth, steady and fairly light pull on my S&W 442 DAO .38 SPL.. I am unsure of the actual trigger weight both before and after the install but I would guess a 40% reduction in pull. The hardest part of the install was removing the side panel. Those 3 little panel screws are in there tight. The problem is they are small enough to where a large jewelers screwdriver is a perfect fit but the jewelers screwdriver is too small to apply the needed break-away torque. After slightly marring the black anodize finish (so slight that no one but myself will notice, just like that huge pimple on my nose just before prom night '64) I finally took one of my larger screw drivers and ground down to fit the width and thickness of the screw slot. Once I did that it was smooth sailing. I didn't bother to get a "pickle fork" (cost as much as the spring kit) to remove and re-install one of the springs and had no problems without it. It may have taken me an extra 30 seconds of manipulation using my new 442 screw driver. I do have to take Apex to task on their instruction video. It was dark and out of focus most of the time. The Apex smiths are very good and make everything seem so easy which, I suppose it is after you've done a hundred or so, but they need to have a more professional photographer filming so we don't have to squint and rewind to see just what is going on. Put one of their kits in my S&W SD9 and made it a decent range gun and am putting one in my S&W Shield c.c. gun as soon as it comes in next week. Watch the video at least 3 times before attempting and grind down a large screwdriver for the side panel and your in like Flint.Read full review

I installed this spring set on a S&W 642. I have extensive experience as an armorer in several common LE platforms, including S&W, so installation was easy. However, post-installation, I could not fire a single round from my revolver - every one was a light strike. Needless to say, I removed this kit and reinstalled the factory springs. Later, I replaced the factory mainspring with a Wolf spring which lightened the trigger pull while continuing to maintain reliability. Take note - Wolf marks its springs by weight. Apex won't even tell you what the spring weights are. I think that's a hint.

After reading a few reviews of the Apex Tactical Duty/Carry Spring Kit, most of them positive, I ordered two of these kits. One for my 442 and one for my 637. The results were exactly what I was looking for. The trigger pull is now in the 9 pound range instead of the original 12-14 pounds on both guns. It was an easy installation after watching the youtube how to video. Just follow the video instructions and it's easy. Just be sure to keep a good hold on the trigger return spring, as it can get away if your not careful. All in all it's a great trigger job for under $25.00. I did read a negative review of this product that said the hammer strike was too light to ignite the primer after install, but I had no such problems with 2 different brands of target ammo as well as 2 brands of defense ammo. I've fired over 200 rounds through both my 442 and 637 since installing these kits and they went bang every time. Read full review

I purchased two of these for use in a Model 60-14 and a Model 60-14 LS. Apex has a great how-to video that makes the installation super easy, although I do recommend you purchase a pickle wrench to install the trigger spring! Made an instant improvement, and my old beat up analog trigger gauge measured the new pull exactly as advertised. This should be a must for anyone with a J Frame revolver! My only hope is that Apex considers a K/L frame kit as well.

It works! I own 2 identical S&W J frame revolvers, the 442 and the 642 air weight centennials. These are DA only revolvers and the factory DA trigger are a bit heavy. Even after weeks of dry firing to get used to the triggers I still found them a bit much for my 65 year old hands. So I installed this kit on the 642 and I was shocked at how light and easy it made the DA trigger. "No way" I thought. could this light of a trigger consistently fire my hand loads using extra hard rifle primers. But so far its all good. So I'm buying another for the 442. BTW I was able to install the kit myself with the help of a youtube video. It's not impossible to do yourself, but it does take a bit of mechanical aptitude.
