This is the 3rd copy of this book I have purchased! I bought it for a friend who hasn't put it down since. It is a wealth of information regarding the ethereal/nature realms and explains in great detail how animals, birds, and reptiles...everything in nature works together and with us. I was able to overcome a long-time fear of spiders as I began to understand their true nature and how it relates to my life. I would highly recommend this and ANY book by Ted Andrews as they all seem to contain accurate, and extensive information on all things in nature and why we have various emotional connections with some of them; i.e. my fear of spiders, and lifelong connection with horses. The book will go into as little or much detail as you like- first helping you to distinguish your own animal totem but also serving as reference material as you encounter various life forms. We regularly use this book. And I have found the information in it quite accurate in my own personal encounters with wildlife. The comprehensive section in the back portion is a continuous source of information divided into birds, animals, reptiles, and insects. If you are interested in going a step further, another of his books, "Enchantment of the Fairy Realm" goes into more detail about mythological creatures, flowers, trees, etc. Although not meant for the closed-minded individual, the books by Ted Andrews are a must have for anyone seeking information on the spiritualality of the nature which constantly surrounds us. It is a book I will always keep in my library, and should be in anyone's collection who wishes to better understand the magic and nature of our environment no matter where you live or what walk of life you come from. I cannot recommend this and any book by Ted Andrews enough!Read full review
This book is a classic of the genre and an invaluable tool for anyone interested in relationships with animals and their meanings in our lives; from the serious student of Native American/shamanistic beliefs to the person who sees wildlife around them and wonders if they have a message for them or are significant to their lives at that moment. Andrews has an incredible knowledge base and an eloquent writing style. The book is easy to read and the format lends itself well to either in depth reading or looking for a specific animal or situation. There are no "New Age" overtones; just wisdom gathered from a seeker's journey and his desire to share what he has learned. I highly recommend this book; I guarantee it will have a place at your bedside table and not be one relegated to a box of paperbacks headed to the thrift store!Read full review
This book is invaluable in the understanding of animal totems. Even to the lay person to understand why an animal may be draw to you or you to them. Or why they are hanging out in your dreams or yard. It is easy to understand and has many animals, fish, and even bugs that in their spirit can help us to learn the lessons of life. And understand the world around us and our path in life. It is a book you will uses over and over again. You will never look at animals, fish and bugs the same way again after reading this book. Very in lighting. Very mind opening. You will not be sorry you spent money on this one. This is a must have for anyone that wants to learn about animals and their spirits.
This is my 3rd copy and I've given this book away as gifts. It covers animal symbolism over the many cultures tying one belief system to another. It's an insightful book. I recommend it.
