This is my first personal 3D printer and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised by the product! I had read a plethora of reviews and landed on getting a Anet A8 as my first printer because I wanted something that was inexpensive and could be upgraded. Needless to say this fit the bill perfectly. Like all others, assembly took some time. The acrylic has a nice finish once the covering is removed and there are extras of all the small screws, nuts, & bolts in the event you lose one. I purchased some upgrades like the Mosfet's and power switch so I could add them right away. Took a little bit of tinkering but much safer machine now. The instructions are coarse as they don't provide a great amount of detail but the unit is poka-yoke (1 way assembly) so just be patient when assembling and you'll be fine! I did have a problem with one of the thermistor connectors but the seller was quick to provide a resolution! All in all, definitely recommend as a first printer for anyone interested in entry level printing.Read full review

The good: All parts seem to be of decent quality. I am surprised at the weight of the motors. This is my first 3D printer and it took me about 8 hours to assemble, but it printed quality objects right away with no tinkering/adjusting. This is a great printer for the money, and I'm happy with my purchase. The bad: be prepared for a long assemble time that takes patience. I watched a YouTube video and followed the PDF, simultaneously. There is a fire hazzard with these that needs to be addressed immediately. Expect to spend another $30 in parts to upgrade the electronics, plus a few hours figuring out how to upgrade the firmware. With all that said, you CAN print quality objects with this printer, stock. There is a lot of info and help on Thingiverse, Reddit, Facebook, and YouTube. I learned some basic CAD on Tinkercad, and sliced it with Cura. If you are looking for a plug and play printer, pay 4x the price and find something else. But, if you seriously want to learn how 3D printing works, take pride in having built your own, and save a few bucks- you can't go wrong with this one. Just do your research first, as I did, so you know what you're getting into.Read full review

The Anet A8 is an excellent printer. It came well packaged with all parts clearly marked. The instructions were adequate and assembly was easy. The only issue I had was that it had a bad extruder hot end. The supplier promised me a new one but it never came. I bought one on eBay (very inexpensive) and that solved the problem. The printer has been running almost non stop for the last 2 months cranking out good quality items. There are a huge number of upgrades available, most of which can be printed on this machine. This is a very sophisticated machine for the price. I highly recommend it as your first printer.

This was exactly what I was expecting. The Anet A8 came in the original box and came in quicker then expected. I was expecting a longer build time, but after having pre-viewed some YouTube builds and following the instructions it came together much quicker than expected. I do recommend following along with some of the YouTube videos, and to get some safety based upgrades (Mosfet's, upgraded power supply). It has run like a champ and is exactly the tinker based project I was looking for. I will give a fair warning that I was new to this and definitely ran into some issues with filament changes as I was new to this, but it worked over all very well!

This is a perfect, cheap option for a newcomer to the 3D print world. Instructions given on the USB drive were somewhat sub-par. It's best to watch the Youtube video for some steps. It's highly recommended to join the Facebook group for this. Large community, many upgrades for it and overall can perform great when tuned right. It's not perfect from it's factory completion. Will need tweaks. My printer came with the v1.5 board with no bootloader. It was tricky to get it working when flashing new firmware.
