As far as a portable midi controller goes, the akai mpk mini mk2 is a great choice. All of the keys, knobs, and pads are very responsive and well designed. The software package included is hard to beat given the price. The drum pads are very responsive carrying a similar feel to the maschine mk2 drum pads and the classic akai mpc. The pads are velocity and pressure sensitive something many controllers of this size and price range do not have. The keys are similar to the microkorg in feel and build, and they are velocity sensitive, but they are not semi-weighted. However, do not pay more than $100-$110 for this, especially if you want one of the limited editions like the red and black version. I have seen people selling it here for $130+ and it is ridiculous. If you want the limited editions order them from guitar center online for delivery, or I recommend pick up in store. I got the limited red and black edition for in store pick up and it cost me $106 after tax.Read full review
