Had to install an automatic update to allow the game to resume from pause mode after a saved game load. Please note: this title was reviewed using a Dell XPS Gen 4, P4 HT @ 3.20 GHz, 4 Gig RAM, Dual 160 SATA RAID(0) hard drives and a nVidia GeForce 6800 256mb PCIe video adapter. It is important to read and understand the minimum and recommended system requirements for any PC video game. Systems that are faster than the minimum may provide significantly better performance and improve your gaming experience. Some PC video games list specific video card requirements and will not function without. It is also important to mention (because we sell video games on ebay) that we do not sell titles as NEW once they are opened and installed for testing. Most test games find a home with one of our testors (employees) and in rare circumstances, we will sell clearly marked as opened and used.Read full review
This strategy guide for Age of Mythology is comprehensive and well written. The manual takes you through the various steps and functions of the game in an easy to follow format. My eleven year old was instantly gratified by the cheat codes listed in the manual; but also was able to gain great confidence in using the various strategies provided to prevail against the computer opponent in campaign mode.
Age of Mythology is one of the best RTS (real time strategy) games I have ever played. The game hooks you with the good single player campaign and then keeps you hooked with the insanely addicting multiplayer. The single player campaign consists of about 30 missions where you must guide Arkantos around the ancient world. The single player game is really a big tutorial, getting you ready to test your skills online. It teaches you how to use all of the civilizations, how to use god powers effectively, etc. Still, it is very engrossing and much better than the "campaigns" in the previous Age of Empires games. The civilizations are very well balanced. There are only 3- Egyptians, Norse, and Greek. Each civ. has their own distinct advantages and disadvantages. For example: The Norse can create mobile resource drop points, the Egyptians have the best god powers, and the Greeks get siege weapons the earliest. Also, there are 3 major gods under each civ. that give you further advantages. The game really encourages you to choose your Civ and major god wisely. The units are also very interesting. The new myth units all have various skills and unique attributes. The units in the game are wonderfully detailed and are very well balanced. For every unit there is a counter unit that can easily kill it. Strategy, strategy, strategy - without careful planning you will certainly lose (offline or on). This is not the typical "build a huge army and conquer the world" RTS. The population cap and counter units make sure of that. Forget about single player random map games against the computer (they suck). Instead, head into the online realm and test your skills worldwide. It's very fun and the people online are very good. This really strengthens the replay value of Age of Mythology. Without the multiplayer the game gets 3 stars- but w/ the multiplayer it is easily 5 stars. You can easily play for months online without getting bored. If you are a fan of RTS games (like warcraft, starcraft, age of empires) then get Age of Mythology. You will not be disappointed.Read full review
The game is a classic and runs well on older systems. (There is an updated version with fancier graphics available from a well-known online game seller, but it turned out to be buggy for me.) This is the successor to the popular history-inspired Age of Empires series of real-time strategy games, but this one imaginatively combines history AND mythology. I've spent many happy hours playing them all.

When I bought my computer way in March 2000, Age of Empires was the first computer game my husband, Joe, and I bought. Joe and I learned to play the Age of Empires by losing a lot os battles and winning a few skirmishes. of course I learned to play this game the hard way, by getting eaten by lions a dozen times. Joe and I learned to see our problems in a different light as compared with what the Greek, Romans, Egypt or Persians worked with. Later, we bought the Age ofK ings when it came out. So we had more equipment, weapons. armour and buildings to work with but to us it was fun. Age of Mythology mayhave came out in 2003 but it wasn't until 2004 and 2005 that this game got our attention. Age of Mythology was not just about history. It was about gods and goddesses, spiritual power, magic and monsters. Joe and I live next door to a Christian church. Church people came to our home for Prayer and Bible Study. One night, last month in March, we held a birthday party for the assist pastor. Age of Mythology was one of the birthday gifts. Well the talk turned to weather a Christian could own the game. Age of Mythology is not an ouija board used to conjure up demons, monsters or magic spells. The game's purpose was to explore what men and women believed in and why they lived and died as they did in the days before Babylon. These people believed they could use the power of these gods and goddesses against their enemies and animal mutations. The game seemed fun so we downloaded the trial version of Age of Mythology from Microsoft. We like the 3D graphics. Of course the Sea Lions are harder to kill than then the elephants in Age of Empires.Since Joe's birthday was coming up in April, I decided to order Age of Mythology for him.Read full review
