This tablet is absolutely great. The touchscreen is very responsive, and the display is beautiful a well. It is a slight pain to get the pen pressure working in photoshop, you'll have to hunt down some drivers online. I'm told that the drawing program that comes with the tablet works perfect with the pen pressure and the default drivers (I bought mine used with a clean install of windows so I didn't have the factory programs installed.) The only other bad thing I can say about this tablet is it's battery life is horrid. Only lasts 3 hours on a charge, but being powered by a 1.3ghz i5, it may be worth the trade off.
At 1st I thought I had gotten a great deal on the slate, but after a weekend of fighting with the thing, I've since changed my tune. Windows 7's interface goes as well with touchscreen as Eskimos in the Sahara. The ergonomic-looking keyboard is painful to type on - the very antithesis of ergonomic. The on-screen keyboard is much better & would be choice if it had haptic feedback or some other tactile validation. I won this thing for about $450 less than retail off the shelf. It was described as refurbished which I think is becoming a euphemism like "pre-owned" cars. The seller was conscientious enough to supply a digitizer pen to replace the non-functioning manufacturer's. I spent the weekend trying everything under the sun and every tutorial under Youtube to get the pressure sensitivity working to no avail. I clearly have a faulty machine in that respect which sucks big, hairy gorilla cojones b/c I bought this mainly to replace my Wacom Bamboo. Nonetheless, I can still draw in Photoshop and model in Zbrush. I the 64Gb hd version. Out the box, 30% was taken up by the OS alone. I performed a full system recovery, installed all my software & I'm down to about 20Gb of free space. I'm a fool for not returning this thing (and for buying used electronics on Ebay, I guess). I feel bad b/c I gave the seller a great review & now I'm raving. I was naive & overly optimistic of my ability to fix what could be fixed & tolerate the rest. Yet, I am keeping this pain in the neck b/c 1) I'm too lazy to bother w/ a return procedure 2) In my frustration, I snapped the pens in two 3) my wife was counting on using my old Toshiba 4) Someone gave me a brand new mini 250G external HD & mini external DVD R/W and 5) It's very portable. Really for ALL it's bad, it will still work well enough for my needs not to mention I paid half the retail price; however, I certainly don't feel like I got away with anything. I ordered a proper stylus w/ side buttons. If I, by some stroke of luck and/or skill, manage to get the pressure sensitivity working, I'll feel like I at least got what I paid for. Meanwhile, I'm taking this one the chin. On the plus side, it doesn't get hot or noisy even after hours of use in it's folio case. It's faster than my old AMD Qualcore Satellite. It's light & easy to handle, perfect for drawing. Runs streaming video & DVD movies very nicely...audio is decent, handles multi-tasking & peripherals like a powerhouse and boots very quickly almost like an Android tablet. I'd say it's unnecessarily pricey for those who only desire "content consumption" and the interface is to clunky. It's terrible for typing and those who perform a lot of data entry. It's perfect for digital artists, on-the-go or otherwise. The combination of a full OS and touchscreen is perfect for loading robust software for drawing, designing, 3D modeling & compositing - most of which is better performed w/ pen & tablet. That's my $.02. Hope it helps. 08/29/2012 - Well, it's going on day six since I've had my Asus Slate and a lot has changed including my attitude somewhat. After being totally frustrated with the interface and disappointed about the lack of pressure sensitivity AND spending 3 sleepless nights attempting to remedy these issues, I found my thrill. INSTALL Windows 8!!! It's awesome on this machine. And after replacing the pen, even the sensitivity works!Read full review
the Best tablet for Windows environment. I'm working in health institute that require to run health application on windows also many windows applications like MS OCS with video conference, outlook client with PST, hand writing recognition, Active directory policies... etc. with i5 processor and 4Gb of ram I never get lack of resources like the other tablets which uses Atom or application compatibility for ARM processors "iPad, Samsung Galaxy". 12" HD screen for high quality videos, very sensitive to stylus pen and hand at the same time and HDMI out put which allow you to present your graphics on external monitors. comes with Keyboard connected via bluetooth which makes my live easier if I set in my office. imagine all of this on Windows 8 once it's release. the only issue is the batteries life 3 hours, compare to others I think it's ok since it's i5 4cores processors and the others are ARM processors which requires less power. the sound is very clear stereo especially when i use it in OCS video conferencing and the mike gives good quality of sound also.Read full review
I am so happy with my tablet PC!!! It's super fast, easy to use, and it does everything that my PC can do and more! It has a kindle which will be great for loading my textbooks onto. It's really light weight which is important for a student like me :) I love the keyboard that it came with because it's nice to have when I'm writing long papers and emails. I really like the stylus that it came with because I like the option of writing notes on the screen during lectures. It's able to run all of the software that I need for work and school. Movies show great on it too. Overall, this product exceeded ALL of my expectations and I would recommend it to anyone!
The greatest tablet ever, the useless ipad and android toys can go to hell! This tablet is a lightning fast computer, much better than even the samsung series 7 slate. people have wanted a comparison between the asus ep121 and the samsung slate for a long time now so i will do a quick comparison here. The asus ep121 have two usb ports! Not just one, like the slate, It has a slot for the pen so you dont have to carry a tablet on one hand and hold the stylus on the other hand, it has a larger 12.1 inches screen giving you a better work space than the samsung slate's 11.6. although the samsung slate has a newer processor, the difference is not much and you have more than enough processing power to run windows 8 on this tablet. And just to sum this up, the asus eee pad slate ep121 has a real memory card reader, i did not say micro sd slot like the slate, ths has a real 4 way memory card reader. you can pretty much do anything with this thing plug in your flash drive and a printer at the same time. Unlike the slate that you can only plug one thing at a time. This tablet is the best and will continue to be the best for many years to come!!!!Read full review
