This is a solid processor and was a nice upgrade for an older desktop, however finding a fan / heat sink that could keep it consistently cool (by that I mean well within normal temperatures, not pushing the upper limits) was a bit of a challenge given the space in the desktop case. Just keep that in mind when looking at this AMD because otherwise it's a great processor.

CPU works fine but heats a lot. It requires a good heatsink with quality thermal compound. I used amd phenom heatsink and artic silver mx5. Prime95 is running and temperature is 57 C° at full speed with peaks at 61. Idle is 47. Works on AM2+ phenom ready motherboards but mind the TDP and power consumption for your power supply unit. PC was thinkcentre A71 type 9144 with sempron 3600+ and 2 gb ram. Now it has quad core phenom ans 6 (soon 8) gb ram ddr2 pc 6400. Might even consider SSD and it runs Windows 7 smoothly. Good thing with old configs is you can upgrade with few spendings on ebay or elsewhere to get decent configs.

This is a rare top of the line Phenom x4 product. It is great for am2+ motherboards and performs very quickly. It is the highest speed of the Phenom x4 product line. The next in line is the Phenom II x4 or x6. It runs all applications very fast if you support it with some decent memory. Great for gaming and you get no lag on high congested areas of the games you play, if you play that type of game you know what im talking about. I got this brand new on E-Bay for about half the cost and was very satisfied with the performance and price. Runs my windows 7 flawlessly. I play FFXI and when in an alliance with 18 people and a few other alliances close by in Abbysea, when most are having lag problems, I am having none at all. Great processor for the price and money and I know there is better ones out there but this one does the job for me so no cons on this processor. I updated from a Pentium D 925 which is a good setup to begin with.Read full review
The Dell Opti 740 came with a Anthon dual core processor. The bios showed that it was "enhanced" for the Phenom quad core and the system was sluggish, not accepting the full 8gb memory and locking up. Once the Phenom Quad core chip was installed, the system recognized the full memory and performs flawlessly (so far!).
