I wanted to like this, but my final reaction was that it was just OK. The premise hooked me: heroine Lena has admired romantic-suspense author Camilla all her life, and finally gets a job assisting and collaborating with the elderly author in a mansion in a picturesque small town. My dream come true! Once Lena arrives, she finds actual dead bodies. In prior volumes, a guy named Sam is the prime suspect. Lena clears Sam's name and falls in love with him...but now, in this volume, Sam's being framed for yet another murder. Sam's out of town a lot, he has a clingy ex-wife, and even if he's not guilty he sure gets mixed up in a lot of crimes...and there are other attractive single men in town...so at what point does Lena decide that Sam may be more trouble than he's worth? Not in this book, which would be OK if Lena were the risk-taking type who thrives on sleuthing. But Lena gets her librarian friend and the local police to do most of the detective work, while Lena eats at restaurants and buys new clothes. The meals and clothes are beautifully described, but Lena doesn't seem to do much detecting...or writing! Free room and board, plus a salary and lots of free time...again, my dream job, except for the dead bodies which don't interfere all that much with Lena's leisure. Read full review
