The movie to watch if you want to see the Jazz Greats. The story line is uncomplicated. Watch it for the music.

With Danny Kaye, Virginia Mayo, Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Lionel Hampton, and several other top name performers wrapped up into this story you have nothing but a "Classic". This is a remake of "Ball of Fire" with Gary Cooper, and Barbara Stanwick made just 6 years earlier but with a different theme. The talent and acting is totally pure professional not often seen in todays movies. If I had more thumbs I would have them up. Well worth seeing if your into the classics when movies were "Great" entertainment for the whole family to see.
The last of Danny Kaye's collaborations with lovely Virginia Mayo, this movie is memorable for its musical sequences. While Kaye's comedic talents can be an acquired taste, this movie is entertaining enough. Although not as memorable as the Secret Life of Walter Mitty from 1947, A Song is Born seems to be fueled with enough fast-paced dialogue to keep fans' attention.
Very cute story, lots of music, typical '40-50's fare, with the jazz and big band greats of the time. Starts a little slow but stick with it for an enjoyable movie. My children, ages 5, 11, 13, and 15 loved it as well as the adults.
