The 28-300 mm XR (Model A06) zoom achieves a remarkable 25% reduction in size, and 28% reduction in weight compared with the previous 28-300 mm (model 185D) - making the A06 the smallest, lightest 28-300 zoom in existence today. To achieve such compact, lightweight lens design, Tamron further improved upon the Moving Triple Cam technology introduced in the 28-200 XR (Model A03), achieving a solid, stable two-step extension action mechanism to attain the 300 mm zoom setting. XR (extra Refractive Index) glass is effective in reducing the optical length of the lens through high refractivity. LD (Low Dispersion) and AD (Anomalous Dispersion) glass minimize loss of sharpness caused by color blurring at the tele end of the focal range, while ensuring vivid, quality imaging. The ASL lens technology compensates for spherical aberration to achieve outstanding image quality. Underated Lens
This lens seems to get consistently trashed in reviews but I find it to be a perfect walk around lens for my d750. Compact, light and good looking, it delivers very acceptable to excellent images at all focal lengths. If you are a gear snob or "pixel peeper" maybe it's not for you, but I love getting good value for the money I spend. By the way, mine is the non Di version of this lens. You can get a much better lens for about the same low price
I bought a D700 to try full frame and use my old Nikon lenses. I wanted an inexpensive universal zoom lens with auto focus to see how the modern system works. I've been a well satisfied Lumix Micro 4/3 guy for years and am familiar with modern auto everything cameras, but not full frame. This Nikon zoom is pretty old technology. It doesn't focus close, the zoom has a little "grind in it", not smooth, and the front rotates as it focuses so it needs a rediculous huge round lens shade. It's a compromise. Worked fine, decent results, but clumsy. If I had looked more carefully I would have noticed the Tamron 28-300 zoom a newer and more versatile lens, macro focusing and a better zoom range than the Nikon lens I'm reviewing here. It's clean and compact. It is pretty well reviewed and I like the results. The Tamron cost about the same as the Nikon on Ebay. Caveat emptor.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

An old lens that's worth a look
An old screwdrivers lens thats very plastically and light, a bit rattly but is quite compact for it's zoom range also is surprisingly sharp and can focus reasonably closely making it a good travel lens

Best Budget All-Around Lense
Excellent lense for the $$$$, and for all-around photography. Tamron makes hot line lenses and this one is just that. Not the fastest lense out there, but if you're looking for a do-all lense for on the go, this is it. One of the best compromise lenses you can buy.
