The bow, for the money, is a great buy. All the right features to get started with. BUT ..... a probable miss understanding on my part lead to the purchase of the unit. My understanding of "Maximum Adjustability" meant just that .... if "peak draw" (15-50#) & "Draw Length" (15-27") are the "Adjustable" parameters then one should be able to adjust to get the perfect conditions. In this case ..... getting a 20# draw weight on a 27" or greater draw length. That combination just won't work. What I ultimately was trying to achieve, I've later decided, was to grow towards a 20#/30" draw weight/length. This won't get that so will have to decide how to handle getting what I desire.

First of all, I have been bowhunting for more than 40 years, most of it with traditional tackle. However, a shoulder surgery made shooting a longbow impossible for a year or two so I bought one of these to use until I built up the strength to go back to my longbow. Many years ago (1970s-80s) I shot compounds and I have to tell you that this little bow shoots better, is made better, than the top of the line bows from pre-1990. Speed is adequate, finish and fit are excellent, no handshock and adjustable up to hunting weights (50-60#) and adult draw lengths so a lot of people can shoot it. It is really a mini-adult bow, not a kid's toy. Easy to carry, too. You might want to upgrade the components (most notably the bowsight) but other than that it is just a great little bow, not just for kids, the only limitation being a 27" draw length - add an inch for a D loop to make a 28" draw.Read full review

This is a nice beginners bow and my daughter loves it. But beware to the beginner - not all compound bows are for you. I bought this because of the range of draw length and poundage and my thinking was my child would grow into it and increase the draw-weight as needed. What I didn't understand is that you can't get a 20pound draw at a 27" draw-length. In fact, the draw-weight at 27" with the limbs fully wound out is approx. 40#. SO - if you have a young child who has a long draw length beware. I contacted Bear, and they were very helpful to the extent they could be, but after a lot of research I simply ordered longer custom strings/cables. This isn't the preferred way to it (it's best to have a bow fitted to your needs/abilities), but it works. The package arrived quickly and everything was in good condition. I would recommend to those who understand the issues with these multiple-draw-length bows. For those buying as a gift you'll really want to know the youth's draw-length & strength, or be prepared for getting some custom strings.Read full review
This really is a great little bow. It has a lot of adjustability with the draw weight and the draw length. It is extremely accurate and everything seems extremely well made. NOTE- something a lot of people don't know- THE DRAW WEIGHT IS PROPORTIONAL TO THE DRAW LENGTH. I first attempted to get the 20-60lb model for my daughter at Bass Pro but at only 23 inches of draw length and at the lowest draw weight for this setting, 30lbs was as low as they could get it to and she just couldn't pull it back. I then ordered the 15-50lb model at the same draw length at the lowest weight that they could do for that length and she was able to pull it back just fine. Ive shot it several times myself and it has a very nice draw, holds extremely well, and is dead on accurate/ consistent.

Purchased as a Christmas present for my 9 year old. He loves it. My older son has an Apprentice 2 which is good as well. I like the sight and grip better on the Apprentice 3. It is very easy to adjust the draw length. Overall a sturdy beginner bow for the price.

The Bear Apprentice III is incredibly accurate and even at a lower draw weight it is easy to be dead on the bullseye out to 60 yards. Now I don't know about you bu 60 yrds is a good distance for Bow season where I come from.

I gave this to my 8 year old grandson for Christmas. I took us about 20 minutes to get it set to his draw length and about another 5 minutes to get it set to his draw weight. We shot it several times and it seems to be as good has quality as the high end Diamond that I am shooting. I would recommend this bow to any beginner. Everything was just as easy has what it was suppose to be. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to enjoy such a great sport with my grand son. I can hardly wait to buy these bows for my next 3 grandkids.

Bought this for my son-in-law for his birthday. For him, he loved it. Effective and was able to set it perfectly for his draw length and poundage quickly. With only minor adjustments, he was ready to begin practicing quickly. Wanted to get him something that would encourage him practicing and hunting without complexities and this was it.

Perfect bow for my daughter who is 8. Shot a bullseye first shot! It’s great because as she grows you can increase length and poundage on the bow. And what girl doesn’t like purple haha!
