This film does a good job of condensing the book into a shorter-time frame but has a little slower pace than what many Potter film may be accustomed. It focuses more on the personal interaction between the characters as they come to terms with their secret inner feelings for each other; therefore, if the viewer is expecting an action-packed cinema experience, this is not it. The film does what it's supposed to do, which is act as the set-up vehicle for the final two films. Viewers will not be able to fully understand the storyline in the final installments without seeing Half Blood Prince as it builds the foundation for what happens next. Overall, it is a good film but don't expect an all-out roller coaster ride.
Ah, Harry Potter, a budget spiritual fantasy series. Although shallow as literature, Potter movies are certainly exciting, in fact, the special effects make them fantastic. The real problem with Harry is the movie's incitement toward witchcraft. If you're one of the 1 in 100 who step into these practices because of Harry's tempting stories, don't expect to finish well like he does. Real witchcraft leads to real evil, and people who get mixed up in it really change. "Years One to Five" is yet another doorway into a haunted, dark life. Better to stick with Frodo & Narnia. Keep the kids away from these movies.
I have enjoyed the Harry Potter Books and films for a number of years now and The Half-Blood Prince was my favorite book in the series. I felt that the film did a good job of translating the major events and impact of the book, but missed out on some of the finer details that are what separate Harry Potter from other young-adult series. Overall, I would recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of this series. It is not an exact reproduction of the book, but I have yet to discover the perfect book to screen adaptation. (Game of Thrones Season One is close)
I really enjoyed this movie, The depth of the story is lacking from the book but that is expected in movies taken from novels. Over all the Movie is great when watched with the other harry potter films but doesn't hold its own as a independently watched film, only do to the fact that so much of the story has to do with what has happened in the previous films. It is also a little darker than its prequels but I would however recommend this movie to all.
Good movie. It looked great in HD. The digital edition download code had expired by the time we purchased this disc. Not a problem for us. I was also a bit worried about how this BD would look because I had read reports of it being too dark. Although there were many scenes where it was dark (like when Harry and Dumbledore are in a cave) it was never too dark for my tastes.
