With 4GB of unbuffered, non-ECC memory, you can store up to 1,140 10MP pictures, 800 5MB songs, and several thousand pages of documents. An Intel 945P (north bridge) and Intel ICH7-DH (south bridge) comprise the core logic chipset architecture. The 945P has a 1066/800/533MHz front-side bus and generates a maximum 15.3 TDP, allowing you to play high-resolution games without overheating your computer’s graphics card. The ICH-D7 provides extensive input/output support, offering enhanced DMA controller, interrupt controller, and timer functions. Its USB host interface can support up to eight USB ports, four UHCI host controllers, and one high-speed USB 2.0 host controller. The ICH-D7 supports Intel high-definition audio, Intel Matrix Storage Technology, Intel Active Management Technology, and provides serial peripheral interface support. The ASUSTeK Intel P5LP-LE Leonite provides three Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) expansion slots and one PCIe x16 expansion slot for connecting an internal Wi-Fi card, 10 Gigabit Ethernet card, graphics card, or solid state drive (SSD). The P5LP-LE has two 6-pin mini-DIN (PS/2 style) connectors for peripheral hardware: one for a mouse and one for a keyboard, one 25-pin (type DB-25) for high-bandwidth hardware, such as printers and external hard drives, one FireWire (IEEE1394a), and four USB interfaces. Note that peripheral driver software varies among brands, so refer to the manufacturer’s CD for driver information or download instructions. You have room to grow with the P5LP-LE motherboard, as it supports seven CPU upgrades: Pentium D 9x0 Dual Core, Pentium D 8xx Dual Core, and the Pentium 4 6x1 series; the Core 2 Duo E6x00 and Core 2 Duo E4x00; and the Celeron D 3xx series. If you plan on using the ASUSTeK Intel P5LP-LE for gaming, go with a dual-core D-series CPU processor. For general utilities, such as browsing the Web, engaging your social media community, or streaming video, a Core 2 Duo or Celeron D series processor has the capacity you need. The P5LP-LE motherboard offers a host of memory expansion options. It has four 240-pin DDR2 DIMM sockets, and its dual-channel memory architecture utilizes two 64-bit channels, so adding an aftermarket RAM chip is as simple as inserting it into a socket and closing the side panels to secure the motherboard tray. The motherboard supports PC2 3200 (400MHz), PC 4200 (533MHz), and PC2 5300 (667MHz) DDR2 DIMMs. The ASUSTeK Intel P5LP-LE Leonite’s 4GB ROM holds the basic input/output system (BIOS), and you cannot corrupt it if errant or faulty programs miswrite the memory. Note that you must only change the board’s BIOS jumper settings when you turn the computer off to avoid damaging the system. Prominent internal connectors take any mystery out of getting internal components online. Two 12-volt fan connectors, one SPDIF-audio output connector, and one nine-pin audio header for headphone-out and microphone-in take care of cooling and sound. One 9-pin header connects the power button, reset button, hard disk drive LED, and power LED. The board holds two BIOS jumper switches, one for disabling BIOS password checking and one for resetting BIOS settings. An RTC RAM (3-pin CLRTC) jumper allows you to clear the real time clock RAM. This is a very good replacement for an old board, although I did have to do a fresh install of my Windows 7 operating system. The chipset must not have been identical to the original. Great for the average 775 2 dual core pc
