Still a pretty fun game even after all these years. Though as a sprite based game it has a lot of technical limitations that prevent it from making it truly engaging in regards to things like stationary ship combat, etc. That said it's pretty much an AoE II clone with things like "pummels" making their way into Star Wars. I feel had this game been a bit more willing to brake the mold and stay "Star Warsy" it could have been truly great. Despite my criticism I actually do find this more fun to play then Age of Kings. It certainly is a balanced game that requires actual diverse armies if nothing else. The A.I. is also decent albeit not perfect for a game over 10 years old. Tends to go from inactive to punishingly hard depending on the scenario. Has quite the campaign length as well when you take into account all the factions. Though the expansion has arguably the best missions to offer. So all in all still fun. However the soundtrack is still buggy (only plays once then goes silent for each mission) and to run in Windows 7 (without color glitches) you'll need a mod to disable the higher graphic functions of modern computers.Read full review
If you love the Age of the Empire series and you are a Star Wars fan you will love this game. It works exactly like Age of the Empire, it just has different names, i.e. carbon instead of lumber, nova instead of gold. The greatest difference is being able to do an air attack. It is great to finally get to use tie fighters or x-wings to fight. I really loved being able to send a hoard of AT-AT's to trample the enemy. Loads of fun and with the Clone Expansion there are lots of campains to fight. A must for any Star Wars Geek. And the graphics are excellent, just like Age of Empires 2 Gold. The music sounds fantastic - music clips from Star Wars Episodes 1,2,4,5, and 6 incuding Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars, The haunting Emperor/Darth Sidious Theme, The Empire March/Darth Vader's theme, and much more. These add a great touch to the game. The buildings and units are exceptional, the civilizations are great, and the power ups are not lacking. It has campaigns, which are do-able and enjoyable in easy mode, but more difficult in hard modeRead full review
My son is a huge Star wars fan. He had this game years ago and even though he now has all the high tech PC games and video games (Wii, XBOX 360, PS3, PSP) this game is still a great timeless classic and he was thrilled to have it once again. He likes how it is designed similar to "Age of Empires." Such as building a base and gathering resources. You can be 8 different Civilizations like Gungons, Naboo Etc...and their all unique. He highly recommends this game to any Star wars fan or any fan of real time strategy. This game was not easy to find so if you do see it definitely buy it and give it a try. Yes, the graphics are not as sophisticated (it is a bit older game) but they are still very good and the game plays smooth with no glitches.

If you like stategy game such as "Chess" or more complex war like strategy games such as "Age of Empires"; but you want a little bit more sci-fi added with it, then "Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga" is for you. The game is fairly easy to understand and comprehend. I personally am not a starwars fan, a friend came to me asking me to try this game because I play age of empires. There are a few downfalls to this game; all the buildings in general look familiar and generic, like big metal monstrosities; and unless you are very common with the game it is very difficult to defferentiate from other similar giant metal constructs. Another thing is that when you are playing the computer in multiplayer fashion, such as having more than one race, and you have allies the computer will surrender on you too easily. In Age of Empires (atleast the ORIGINAL Age of Empires") your allies fight to the death instead of surrendering. Now in the original Age of Empires it was tiresome to always have to destroy the enemy to the last red construct on the map; and surrender does eliminate that issue but having structures with out them surrendering gives hope. I had an allie with all their drones killed off so they surrendered but they still had buildings and soldiers. If this was the original age of Emp then you could give extra food and resources and BAM your ally is back in the game rather than just ultimate surrender. Last issue I had is that I tried to play multiplayer with my friend who recomended this game but there was an issue with the compatibility of his game and mine. I dont kno why there was an issue but there was. All in all I give this game a 4/5 for playability, well organized system of levels and advancements, and satisfication in difficulty of the game. You will be playing this game for hours once you get into it. You might have issue multiplaying or the feelin of your allies quiting on you before the war is over but over all satisfication is well recieved. Try it out.Read full review
