This scope was the standard 30-40 years ago. If you find one in good condition it is still a solid piece of equipment. Ebay offerings range from parts units to reconditioned, tested, and calibrated scopes. I opted for a tested and calibrated unit rather than taking a chance on "it displays two dots and I can move them around". The premium was about $100 over an untested unit. You might also want to look at some of the new digital scopes.

TEKTRONIX scopes of this era are the best equipment money could buy and TEKTRONIX wrote the book on the modern oscilloscope. In the day, TEK built ONE grade of scope, that was, the best quality available for the price point. TEKTRONIX Build quality was second to none, even on these entry level scopes. TEK Scopes of the day worked right out of the box, No Software upgrades or firmware glitches to fix. These are "made in the USA" quality, that is simply a thing of the past and probably the reason that these scopes are still doing useful work today. Through Hole circuit boards and simple discrete components are the hallmark of these rugged machines. Not as light and compact as the equipment that you buy today, but also much more durable, rugged and repairable! Every component was hand picked and was installed with workmanship and pride that is sadly missing in today's throwaway products. These instruments are prime examples of the quality that you once saw in USA built products, not built down to a price in Asian sweat shops. You will likely not find any 30 year old Chinese scopes that still work, I doubt that they ever existed. Today, electronic items quit and you throw them in the scrap bin. OLD TEK Scopes just keep working. These beautiful analog machines can do valuable work in a home hobby shop and for many applications are better than modern DSO scopes. There is something about an analog trace on a scope that simply cannot be duplicated by a digital machine.Read full review

This is a classic workhorse 2-channel analog scope with external trigger, delayed timebase and AC/DC coupling. Even though vintage, it works fine with an occasional scratchy control. For under $50 is is a value; display is bright, x10 horizontal, builtin calibrator. We grew up with these. NOT digital anything, of course.

The scope is as advertised . The display is bright and crisp with controls easy to read, has a steady trace. A worth while tool for the experimenter or tech. Great scope.
