"If God exists and He is all-powerful, why would He allow evil to exist?...allow my mother to die?...send people to Hell?...Isn't the Bible full of contradictions?...How can you believe a man rose from the dead?...Doesn't evolution/random chance explain how we got here?" Lacking good answers to questions like these has caused many people to doubt, or decide God doesn't exist, and/or that Christianity is false. Ed Boyd was just such a person. However, his son, Greg was a professor of Theology. By letter Greg challenged his 70+ year-old dad to share with him all his objections to the Christian faith and give him a chance to answer them. Ed took the challenge, and the book shares with us the 30 or so letters that father and son exchanged. Ed's 29 objections are well-reasoned, and Greg's responses are equally sound, backed by the facts, and are quite thought provoking, leading one to deep reflection, regardless of the present status of one's own faith. Other books like "The Case for Faith", or "The Case For Christ" by Lee Strobel, or "Answers to Tough Questions", or "More than a Carpenter" by Josh McDowell also deal well with these type of questions, but they do so on a more detached academic level. "Letters From a Skeptic" adds a very personal dynamic. These are real people who care deeply about each other, grappling together with questions having eternal significance. Questions everyone would like answers to; questions I believe boil down to this: "Can I believe God is real, and if He is, why is it so hard to believe?" You owe it to yourself to see how Dr. Boyd answers this question, and many other tough questions just like it.Read full review
I had heard about this book from a friend and decided I would like to read it myself. Instead of chapters this book has a question/answer format depicted through letters between a Father and a Son. The father being the non-believer; with plenty of no-holds-barred questions for a son,(a professor of theology), who answered each with truth and honesty, in a very convincing manner. This book of questions and answers cleared up questions that I harbored over the years and just couldn't seem to get a satisfactory answer for. I just wasn't sure where to look for those answers. If you have questions; this book has answers. It is an excellent source/ reference for anyone from a non-believer to a seasoned Christian. We all have questions, and were always looking for answers. Check it out for yourself.Read full review
Overall a good read for those who want to explore the truth of Christianity. I warn you that it has a substantial amount of profanity and curse words in it. This unusual for a book by a conservative, Christian author. I find it offensive. All in all it is a good book.

These are letters written between a father and son as they discuss really tough questions about God, Jesus, the Bible, death and dying, hell, religion, grace and others. The answers are explained in simple language, not a religious, philosophical dialogue. Each question is answered in just a few pages. This is an amazing book to share with someone who doubts the reality of God.

Awesome book for anyone who has had doubts or questions reguarding God or his existence. This is a great family book that parents can share with there kids or visa versa. For the unbeliever or believer. The son who the book is about uses science math and faith to reason with the dad. Great ending to. I think every church no matter which donomination shoild have a copy of this to pass out. This book is as good as any out there to help convince or teach anybody with doubts.
