First off this cologne isn't for everyone. Just likes its name it has a dark or heavy scent. It starts out with a heavy leather and citrus scent and finally settles down to a leather and vanilla and some what chocolate smell. On first application it's almost offensive but dries down pretty quickly and softens out to a nice scent. This cologne isn't for every body or every occasion. It smells like leather jackets and motor cycle mechanic. It's a winter only, pool shooting, mess with me and I will put foot to ass cologne. It's a whiskey drinking night out scent. Most male friends either didn't like it or thought it was ok. Oddly enough most females seem to like it. I got several compliments on it from ladies who were total strangers. Its definitely not a metrosexual type scent. Its a tough guy scent. When I first applied it I thought it smelled like gasoline and oil, mixed with orange and lemon. Not pleasant at all. To me this has a fantastic aroma. Warm smokey tobacco scent that reminds me of the inside of a cigar box but in a good way. However, the smell does not last very long at all so I find myself using more of it and ultimately the bottle doesn't last very long.

I think this is the best men's cologne out there. Good mix of fragrance components, but a couple of edgy ones as well. Top notes are excellent, but even when they wear off, the mids retain a lot of the original tone. This particular cologne lasts longer (with any distinctiveness) that the other JV colognes.

This is a strange sexy smell, it starts off with a strong booze smell, then it dries down into a masterpiece. It's a sexy vibe which can be pulled off by us that love black licorice. Definitely a winter cologne with a tad oud present. Definitely on the dark side of the force, if you're into this and want to be on the light side you need to try dreamer by versace. This is definitely a buy in my book especially from the house of varvatos.

I bought a 2 mil decant of this about a year ago. People always complain about Varvatos fragrances not lasting long. I have their original John Varvatos and dark rebel. While it is true that the original John Varvatos doesn't last on my skin any more than about an hour or so dark Rebel on my skin last about 4-5 hours.
