After doing the limited edition TB-2w, Boss made a great silicon fuzz that even fuzz haters can like. Like most pedals in the Waza Craft line, the FZ-1w is extremely versatile with tones ranging from guttural low end fuzz to a swarm of bees type of fuzz. The pedal has two voices. The "Vintage" fuzz is very similar to a silicon transistor Fuzz Face. It cleans up great with the volume knob rolled off. Unlike most Fuzz Face circuits, the FZ-1w works great for single coil or humbucking pickups. The second "Modern" fuzz voice has more lower midrange thump with a less crispy top end. It doesn't clean up as well with the volume knob rolled back, but the range of its fuzz goes from a simple overdrive to molten fuzz. If you desire a simple fuzz, the FZ-1w is really hard to beat. It also plays with buffered pedals seamlessly. It also works great for fuzz bass. I love fuzz pedals, so I own a few dozen of them. I really don't need another fuzz pedal, but this Boss Waza Craft fuzz is really stellar for a simple fuzz. It stacks great with other dirt type pedals. Kudos to Boss for designing this pedal as I generally don't like their overdrive or distortion pedals. Though I was hoping for a Waza Craft edition of the venerable Roland Bee Baa, the FZ-1w is a great addition to the Waza Craft line. If you're player that doesn't like fuzz. I would suggest giving this pedal an audition.Read full review
