Loved this version of Les Miserables. The acting was wonderful and loved that it was recorded live. I love Anne Hathaway's voice and versions of the songs. Well worth watching just to see her performance. Hugh Jackman pulls a strong lead. Russell Crowe's voice was better than expected, just not as strong as the character needed. Loved Eddie Redmayne version of "Empty Tables, Empty Chairs"

This rendition is very good, the acting is exceptional. Others have discredited the singing, but knowing it was recorded live as acted, not on a taped play-back, I feel it adds to the grit, humor and emotion of the scenes. Having seen Les Mis on the stage, I felt the story was well adapted, and any changes made were necessary for filming. The characters were rich and well portrayed. I enjoyed this movie very much, the music has always been a favorite of mine for over 30 years.

A great stage show, adapted with a lot of extra things to see and witness anew in the feature film. Some scenes are drab and shows us the life of the very poor at that time in France. The man that steals a loaf of bread before starving, and the policeman that haunts and searches for him. The pooor little orphan girl he rescues. In between some great singing and a suprise the stars do so well. Those memorable songs are there and as we loved them on Broadway, we want more of them now on dvd and can get them when we want to. An Academy award winner. I would sy so. This is a wonderful DVD..especially for those true fans of Les Miserables...!
This is an excellent movie classic. I own but a few DVDs and I knew that I wanted this one. I would recommend it to all whom have a heart. I bought the DVD after first seeing the movie on my DISH DVR. I wasn't sure what it was about nor that it was a musical. I do like the actor Russell Crowe so that was why I recorded it on my DVR. It took a few moments for me to realize that this is a Musical. Musicals can express the emotion so much better. I choked up a few times and cried some near the end. I shared my experience with my Mom who just so happened to be reading the book. She gave me the background/history of the book. As I say this movie deserves all the Awards. I compare this movie to all the great classics of my time. The sound of Music, Mary Poppins, The Wizard of OZ, etc.
I went ahead and gave it a "5" even though it is not my normal meeting criteria to get that rating. I have heard that this was a very good musical and I have wanted to see it for quite a long time now. Even though this movie says 2013, it has been around a lot longer than that! It has a very good story line! Keeps you interested thru to the end! The part I had some what of a harder time with and why I almost gave it a 4 was because it is a total musical unlike the other musicals I've seen, which takes some getting used to! However, I still give it a 5 due to the actors, story, and plot!
