This really isn't a book to read once and put down. It's not a one-and-done. It's almost a study guide. It is *SO* helpful. The author introduces a concept called, "RAIN," which stands for "Recognize," "Allow," "Investigate," and "Nurture." With this four-step tool we can become more mindful and present. It's such a simple yet powerful way of looking at life. I've read the book three times now in the last month. There are so many wonderful lessons and helpful hints on how to navigate this human existence. I'll be turning to this book frequently for the rest of my life. I think anybody who wants to release fear, anxiety, worry and negative self-talk would really benefit from this book. I really can't say enough about it. And it's written in the clearest of language. Even when the author gets into research psychology and the biology of the brain, the explanations aren't filled with medical jargon or other scientific language that would get in the way of the book's purpose. Her explanations and descriptions are so vivid and alive. And just plain helpful! I'm in a 12-step program, and this dovetails perfectly with the 11th step. So helpful! Such a great book!Read full review

This book was recommended to me by my therapist. I am new to many of the ideas or practices talked about in this book. Some things I "get" and others I'm still struggling to understand the "how". "Is the content compelling?" That is one of the questions asked in the review. For me, not so much compelling as confusing but I said yes as I am hoping to understand the practices the more I study/read the book. Right now I am struggling, but I believe with time and my therapist's help this book will help me deal with my emotions and accept what has happened in my past. This book gives me hope of a better future.
