This is what makes AMD a perfect alternative to Intel - It mostly outperforms Intel I7 processors, except for the more expensive versions; it has 8 cores for processing, more than the Intel versions! Although it requires FX-type motherboards to handle the 220W power, they are worth the investment, since they are the top of the line, and also mirror or even beat the Intel motherboard counterparts. I wish they would put this in a laptop! That would make AMD rule! Until then, for those that want the most bang for the money in a desktop system, this is the way to do it. However, I would recommend using only a water-cooled heatsink fan setup, not just for the processor but also for the motherboard's sake. Water-cooled is already the best way to keep temps low for gaming systems, and the lower the temps, the longer the life of the product, regardless if it is AMD or Intel. The bottom line is, with this chip, you will have bragging rights for most gaming applications, as well as those that require heavy intensive video requirements. I was pleasantly surprised, and I am sure you will be as well.Read full review

"This CPU is fantastic", just keep in mind that it's a 220W CPU, which means you'll need to have a motherboard that's capable of running a 220W CPU (most aren't), and because it's 220W it runs very hot, so you'll also need a liquid CPU cooler, air coolers just don't do it (trust me I've tried)... You'll also need at least a 900W Power supply, but with those three things this thing "ROCKS!!!"

If you are looking for a no-compromise performance AMD CPU - this is the one. It's really fast, but also very hot and draws big currents, therefore you must make sure your motherboard is compatible, anc CPU cooler is capable. Most water AIO 140-240 loops will easily manage cooling of this beast, and some air coolers, like Zalman CNPS9700 (my personal favourite air cooler of all times), or Noctua nh-d14 and Noctua nh-d15. And for compatible motherboards - check that motherboard is supporting 220W AMD CPU in general, or FX-9590 explicitly. PSU is not really an issue, as long as it provides 25Amps on V12 rail and is at least 500W labeled. If you will add some power-hungry GPU - you will have to factor in GPUs own power requirements, but from my personal experience even then you are Ok with decent 750W PSU, maybe 850W if you want to be extra safe.Read full review

This is a great processor but you will have to get a liquid cooling system in order to keep it cool. When installed with an entry level CPU cooler it was running at 70-78C! I will be upgrading the cooling system to a liquid one so that the CPU doesn't burn out. This processor is a great value, but you will have to spend a bit more time and money finding an efficient cooling system for it.

the AMD FX-9590 is the perfect complement to an AM3+ board that will evunteally be replaced by the new M.2 boards. If you going to stick with your AM3+ board for a while the FX-9590 is the perfect choice to upgrade to. My Cpu performes flawlessly under water-cooled conditions and I have no regrets. Along with my twin GTX680's it allows me to play BF4 with ultra settings getting around 150fps. I love it and will always buy AMD.
