In a sense, the Sansa Fuze is a strange thing; but it captivates the eye and does it's job exceptionally well. From the people who bring us USB drives and Micro SD's comes this MP3, player. I managed to snag it for $32.00, including shipping and handling. Battery Life: It's enough; you ca go about 2 days without charging. There are better battery lives out there in smaller MP3's, but they sacrifice some much-needed things. Features: With it's main firmware, you already have plenty to choose from. The FM radio is actually better than my car's radio, picking up signal efficiently. I enjoyed the touch of being able to record radio music; not many companies spring for that. In terms of Music play, we see the basics; Playlist creation, quick playlists, sorting by artists, genres, etc. Pictures, well, it's decent, for what it is. Some pictures hang, and not all filetypes supported. Videos, I haven't had the luxury to try out yet; but the main one they included had a bit of skipping. No an optimum video player. I highly recommend you Rockbox it, if you're more of an audiophile; the features gained are invaluable. Crossfading, Dithering and Compressing, Oscillometers and so much more. Also, for the casual users, Rockbix will allow you to skin it whatever way you want. Design: It's design worries me a bit. The scroll wheel is much too sensitive, and it feels plasticy. The backing is easy to clean and all, and with proper care it can work. However, it's good enough to withstand falls. Value: If you're looking for a cheap MP3 with no add-ons, look elsewhere. Maybe the imitation iPods on Ebay might serve you better at a lower price, though I can't say what quality you will get. However, for the features and control I had over it, it is a great deal.Read full review
I've got this player for Christmas and I've got to say it's almost perfect. I Rockboxed it and it works perfect Outstanding audio quality (much better than the Ipod Touch)video nice screen and quick menu.Only down side was battery life wich is a bit shorter than the said-so 25 hr audio playback(maybe beacuse I have a Refurbished Model dunno I only get around 16-18hrs)the other tiny problem was the headphones build quality, they sound amazing but, they have thin wires wich are bound to brake(mine failed after a month) overall it's a Solid build Player, the metal back case gives it a very good protection from scratces and shocks and acts as a radio antenna, giving it excellent FM reception. Highly recomanded for anyone out there looking for a buget player with high end capabilities. Features : Flac playback MicroSD extension Slot(very useful-up to 32 GB of extra memory) Silicon-coated metal back wich protects it from scratches. Video Playback. Supports Rockbox-Alternative Firmware wich extends its capabilities to the max with Text editor, games and applets,Video Player, cronometer, calendar, alarm and many other functions. OUTSTANDING Audio Sound Quality-Courtesy of the great DAC also featured in the Clip model.Rumors say its even betterthan its succesor Sansa fuze+ at sound Quality.Me personaly I've never heardbetter sound from anyother player. My verdict for the refurbished 4 gb model-8.5 out of 10.Highly recomended.Read full review
The unit’s design is very stylish and impressively slender at only 0.3 inches. A microSD/microSDHC card slot that is situated on the left edge of the device is a very useful feature that gives you the option to store many more songs, videos, and photos than using the built-in memory. Package Contents: Sansa Fuze 4GB media player Earphones Earphone foam covers USB 2.0 cable Quick start guide Audible.com free offer Sandisk Sansa Fuze – Getting Started Battery Charging: The Sansa Fuze has an internal rechargeable battery which negates the hassle of constantly buying batteries. The battery is charged using the supplied USB cable which is long enough to reach around the back of most computers that don’t have front USB ports or a hub. According to the published figures, you can expect to get a respectable 24 hours for audio playback and 5 hours for video from a fully charged battery. Earphones: The earphones are comfortable to wear and come with optional foam covers. It's worth using them as they improve comfort and you get a slightly better bass sound. A gold-plated 3.5mm plug is fitted to the earphone wiring which is unshielded to serve as an aerial for the built-in FM radio. Transferring Music: The Sansa Fuze supports MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) and MSC (Mass Storage device Class) for the transfer of media. For Windows users, MTP is the recommended setting which enables you to use software media players, playlists, and subscription services (Rhapsody and Napster for example). MSC is used for non-Windows operating systems and simply acts as a flash memory storage device. Windows Media Player was used during the review and the Sansa Fuze synchronized without any problems. Sandisk Sansa Fuze – Device Features Controls: Sandisk have opted for a 4-way control pad that also has a 360o rotating wheel. This wheel can be used for volume control and cycling through the menu; a useful LED light also illuminates every time you use the controls to give you visual feedback. The menu button is located near to the control pad and gives you access to the main menu. A power/lock slider button located on the edge of the unit is used to turn the device on and off and to lock the device to stop any accidental button presses while in a pocket etc. The controls on the Sansa Fuze feel sturdy and have a positive feel when used. Menu System: The Sansa Fuze has a great looking menu system that has excellent resolution and doesn’t suffer from lag when used. The main menu is icon-driven which you can conveniently cycle through using the rotating wheel. There are animated icons for music, video, photos, FM radio, voice, and settings. While playing a music track the screen displays battery level, album art, artist, playlist number, and track title. There is also a progress bar, track elapsed/remaining, and the time in either 12 or 24 hour format. Pressing the select button (located in the center of the control pad) cycles through different displays such as, a larger image of the album art and what the next song is after the current one finishes. You can also view a real-time 16-band audio spectrum analyzer which sadly is only displayed for 10 seconds. This is really only a gimmick but it looks great. The menu system on the Sansa Fuze is easy and fun to use and won’t take you long to learn.Read full review
I purchased this to update from my older model Sansa Sandisk. This is improved in a couple of ways, but could go a little farther. The older model fast forwarded and rewinded in 15 second bursts with a flash of play time in between. If you held it just right. If not it would zoom to the end or beginning of the chapter and you would have to start again. The new model has a continuous FF or R and a counter to keep track. Where they could have gone farther would be if you could rewind to the previous section without having to start at the beginning and go forward. Not nearly as frustrating as the older model but would be nice if you could roll back for the last minute without having to FF through the entire previous chapter. I use my fuze to download audio books from the public library. This is one of their approved models. It easily holds 5 or 6 average length novels. I listen to books while I am falling asleep and always end up falling asleep before I turn it off. The battery life is great. Even letting it run for a long time, only requires charging weekly instead of daily. The battery charger/ sync slot is very close to the head phone jack. You have to do a little wiggling if you want to charge and listen at the same time. With my older Sandisk I used to accidentally hit the record button often when I would pick it up, the button was on the side. I haven't done it yet with the fuze. If you are like me and want to rewind often, this can be a little frustrating that you can't back into the previous chapter, but for the price it is a great player. it is easy to navigate, easy to set up, download to and play. It is very small and easily fits in a pocket. Great battery life and decent sound, especially for audio books.Read full review
I absolutely love my new player. I had bought the San Disk Clip for Christmas and loved it but I wanted a new player that I could download photos and videos to. This player is easy to use and work. The drag and drop is the easiest way to load music and because I am technically challenged I needed something that wasn't overly complicated. I work in a dusty environment and around dangerous equipment so I needed something that was small, easy to carry and that was essentially bomb proof. I'll be purchasing another one for my boyfriend later today and for my mother who is 78 I'll get her a little San Disk Clip fully loaded and ready to go. Mo more CD's to carry around and get lost or scratched, no more melting tapes that get stretched or lost between the seat and console of the car. Just one nice mp3 player to keep track of that is NOT expensive that you need to buy insurance for or hock the farm to maintain. The ONLY con is the outside of the beautiful black case is a dust magnet. I'll be purchasing a cover to make it a little more bounce proof and keep the dust out of and off of it.Read full review
