The Garmin nuvi 295W Automotive GPS Receiver is a good GPS at a good price ($98.00 including shipping) and has a lot of good gps features. I have used it several times and it is a good gps, being fair no gps is perfect and they all make mistakes. However the volume is insufficient to hear over road noise and that is the reason i bought this model so i could hear the instructions when traffic was heavy and i did not want to look at screen. Second the wifi will not let me access my webmail. I have tried lots of times and no go. To be fair the part of the wifi that lets the unit access weather and google lookups for the gps is great. The camera at this time seems to be okay and no problems noted. I recommend this gps for its gps function combined with its ability to help find locations locally with a wifi hot spot. again volume is insufficient and access for me to my web mail has not happened. Overall a good unit for gps and navigation. If this unit had better volume and bluetooth for a headset to hear it better i would have rated it excellent overall.Read full review
I have a Nuvi 260W but it didn't have a mount and maps needed upgrading. I bought this 295W for about the same price as what it would cost to get what I needed for my 260W. I liked the WiFi connectivity, I used it recently on a trip to the west coast. It was sometimes a little hard to find a wifi connection, but at visitor centers, truck stops and hotels it worked very good. I was amazed how much I could do with the browser in this unit. I kept watch on National Weather Service forecasts and maps to choose our route. The camera is a neat feature but the quality of the picture is poor. It's small size was not much of a problem with viewing. The picture rotated with rotation of the unit so I could position it for best view of the road ahead. I wish it would tell the street name when turning but the picture did automatically zoom to the corners so you could see at a glance how the turn was. The volume on the unit is a bit low I had it on Max most of the time. I think if the speaker was on the front the sound would be better. The battery life varied a lot, not sure if something running in the background shortened battery life at times or what was happening. All in all I feel it is a very good unit for the price and I will find many more uses for it on future trips and for hiking.Read full review
i buy Garmin nuvi 295W about three week ago. After a while looking for GPS, my mind set into the new GPS which just release this year in Indonesia which is Garmin Nuvi 295w. the key point for choosing nuvi 295w is this GPS can accommodate both in car use and pedestrian use, so you don't have to buy a different GPS while you are going by walk. This GPS is also have a wifi connection which allow user to browse the internet and also get an update weather forecast. this is also and advantage. for the price and it's feature you can't resist. over all i am glad my choose for nuvi 295w. hope the unit will last long.
I bought this unit when Amazon had it on special last year. This unit was to be a backup to my Garmin 1490t. I also wanted to geotag a few photos to send back home while on our Florida vacation. It does everything I expected. When the unit is removed from the cradle, it marks the last position. Just put the unit in your pocket then select GO TO LAST POSTITION in favorites to locate the car when the races are over. When the unit is returned to the cradle, the last position is deleted from favorites. Pretty neat. The max volume can be adjusted in the diagnostic menu. But alas, the setting returns to default when the unit is powered down completely. I like this unit but the small screen is a dislike for sure. The Garmin website has instructions to create & load custom POI files. I have thousands of locations entered in my unit.Read full review
Currently I own the Garmin 1490 and love it. The one thing it won't do is find my car in a parking lot so I bought the 295. On the plus side: the smaller size is just fine. The lighter weight equal to a cell phone works great when sitting in your pocket. The power cord which fits into the base and not the unit makes it easy to remove the unit from the car. On the minus side: the voice volume and clarity is a bit on the poor side no way equal to my 1490 and it won't find my car in the parking lot, and there is nothing in the Users Guide to explain how that feature even works. Disappointed.
This is my first GPS and I am very happy with it. It's a very useful gadget. Has Wifi and a digital camera. It solves all my location problems. I can find whatever place I need (gas stations, restaurants, hospitals, etc) thanks to its pre loaded maps. Does not matter if I am in the car or walking. Works like a charm. Totally recommended. Pros: Size, portability, wifi, camera, price Cons: Just a little bigger screen would have been nice. Hope this helps.
Compared to my older first generation Nuvi this one is hands down the best portable GPS device I've seen. It's sleek look reminds me of an Apple Iphone and the color screen allows several different views. Before purchasing I read the reviews for the Garmin with Lifetime Map updates and this model actually got better reviews. Since I got this model and not the other I can't really compare, but I do agree with the numerous other reviews that the Nuvi 295W GPS is exceptional. It does everything I want of a GPS device and more at an attractive price. In fact, I have a built in GPS in my car that is way more cumbersome to use and not as flexible as the Nuvi. I highly recommend the Garmin Nuvi 295W GPS.
I purchased this because of the features, I love all the things it can do. Now for the bad, can't hear it at highway speeds, display could be a little larger, takes forever to acquire satellites sometimes. I wish Garmin would come out with a new improved version then I would buy another one.
Likes: lots of features email works great as does local weather same great mapping and ease of use standard on Garmin. dislikes: browser is a little son the slow side, battery life is short, wish it came loaded with a video driver for YouTube. I probsble would buy it again.
The GPS system is fantastic. It connects fast, redirects nimbly, and is Garmin, so it is reliable. The battery life seems really good, and the other apps are also very nice to have. It plays music, checks your email, and has a calendar. Basically, it is akin to a smart phone without the phone aspect (and without data charges!). If this sounds like something that you might be intrigued by, I suggest you check one of these out. I very much enjoy mine.
