I was considering pros and cons between this Eotech 512 red dot holographic and an Aimpoint PRO for my AR-15 prior to deciding on the Eotech. Initially I was leaning towards the Aimpoint but after further consideration, I decided on the Eotech mainly because of the ease of use, quality, reputation, and most of all the price. Although the Aimpoint would just be as good if not better than this Eotech, I concluded that since I want a good quality red dot for a reasonable price, I was drawn to this Eotech. After bringing it to the range and zeroing it on my AR-15 300 blackout, it was outstanding. The red dot holographic sight was clear even in the brightest daylight. Once zeroed, I couldn't miss, except when my trigger pulls were too unsteady because of my excitement! I would highly recommend this product because of its quality, price, and value.Read full review

Difficult to see exact center red dot. Appears as two dots, even if you go from very bright setting to a lower intensity setting. Cannot tell which of the two red dots is the one that is dead center. Not sure if this is a refurbished item since it is not clear what is going on with the red dots. I have had other scopes with red dots and you can adjust up or down to get the intensity clear on the edges of the image, this image always looks like it is broken not a crisp line, again even when you go from intense bright setting to a lower light setting. For the price it does not seem to come up to my expectations based on the product name.

I saved up for a long time to buy this and was a little disappointed A. When I turned it on and saw how pixilated the aiming circle and dot were, and B. When I turned it back on it does not retain my setting, and comes back on super bright, and C. When I mounted it and shot it and on the 3rd shot with a mild 5.56 load it flip off into the air and luckily I caught it before it hit the ground. The picatinny mount only grabs about 1/16" to 1/8" of the rail at the most. Even with that I've decided to keep it. I tightened the snot out of it, contrary to Eotech's warning, I hope it holds! If I had it to do over again, I might just maybe pick up a top quality red dot, instead of the holographic EoTech. All said and done, it does hold zero in mild Louisiana weather. And I can see thru the glass and shoot using my flip up BUIS without taking the EoTech off. So yeah it's a Good servicable sight. Not Great. Just Good. I may be a little optimistic. UPDATE: After logging several hours range time with the EoTech 512 and after looking thru a lot of the competition's red dot sights, I decided that I needed to adjust my feedback on this weapon sight. This sight holds perfect zero and is well worth the extra bucks I paid for it. Guess I should have given it a few more trips to the range before writing feedback. I now am a firm believer in this sight and trust it on my primary home defense weapon. It is one of the best available for it's intended purpose. Very clear glass.Read full review

This is a perfect optic that doesn't break the bank, solid quality and proven durability, eotech may have had some issues with some previous gen 512's but those have been fixed. Combined this with your favorite magnifier and you have a even better optic that can stretch it's leg's, and that is a holographic sight the reticle does not change in size when magnified. People may not like that it uses AA batteries over CR123's but AA are everywhere and new quality rechargable batteries like from duracell last as long if not longer than normal alkaline AA. Overall a solid purchase!

Owning an Eotech is in investment, and you are more like a temporary owner of a legacy. I know someday I will upgrade to the smaller or night vision units, but for now the regular AA battery model is very practical and I LOVE having a durable time-tested site on my primary weapon. I hemmed and hawed about less expensive knock-off's and just wanted the piece of mind that it will allays hold zero, and be ready when I need it. I considered red-dot units, but really like the way I can use the MOA circle and in fast siting and quick regroup. I'll be getting a flip-to-side magnifier to complete the investment. It's better to by a reliable used EOTECH and still recoup the investment later, than buy a "other" brand and take a hit on value deprecation
This product is a very well respected sight in the gun industry. I do alot of research before I buy a product. Once I feel that the product will work for my application I then go to E-Bay. The Eotech is easy to use and uses simple AA batterys, with a long useful life. EoTech sights do not magnify the target, they are used for close targets with fast sighting keeping both eyes open. Alittle hard to get used to. The EoTech is used mainly by our military. I bought the product for home defense, hunting and target shooting. I feel it is the best fast target sight on the market. Very accurate laser once sighted in.
if you can shell out $375+ the pls don't waste money on other red dot sights. not saying they are bad, but this is the one currently used by US Military around the world. i sighted it in, and in no time i was hitting a 9" plate at 200M with no magnification from 16" barrel. Also you have to be a good shot to achieve it. good luck guy!

Awsome optic for the money better than an aimpoint due to field of view and quicker target aquire. Yes battery life isnt as good but a double a battery is cheap and easy to get compared to an aimpoint. 600 to 1000 hours is plenty of run time for average people on button is quick and tactile to hit

I have had a number of Red Dots, all of them good quality, but now only EOTech for me. Other red dots with 2 or 4 Moa cover too much of the target at 100 yards. The 512 covers only 1". And for close quarter drills, the 65 moa circle covers 6.5 " at 10 yards. The best of both worlds.

EOTech makes a good product and this is no exception. I own two of these one on an AR rifle and one on an AR pistol. They work well. The only downside is the battery run time is much shorter (600-1000 hours) as compared to the Police Rifle Optic (PRO) which has a 50,000 hour battery life. A quality rugged product.
