McCarthy just won the Pulitzer with The Road and "well earned". The Crossing, 2nd installment in The Border Trilogy, is still what I consider the best book ever written......... Period. All the Pretty Horses fired up McCarthy's public appeal in 1992 and was his most readable book at that time. It was followed by The Crossing [1994] and another fine read where the lead characters in both of the 1st two installments, John Grady Cole and Billy Parham, are joined together. In the Crossing, Billy and his younger brother Boyd, Live their young lives on the daily verge of death as they travel from New Mexico to Mexico and back, and back Where Billy eventually brings the bones of his little brother home in a bag over his saddle horn. This book will bring tears to the eyes of the hardest hearted and is a totally absorbing read. Sets a whole new standard in contemporary literature.Read full review
