This is an old school PDA that represents the peak of the form before standalone PDA's were supplanted by smartphones. In my opinion, this was one of the best and most affordable Windows Mobile devices ever made. I bought this one on e-bay to replace one just like it that I owned for almost 5 years before it had an unfortunate encounter with a sink full of water. Since Dell no longer makes this model, ebay was a lifesaver. I have also owned an iphone for about two years now, but there are still things I can do with this PDA that are more cumbersome to do on my phone. For one thing, it takes both Compact Flash and SD cards and I currently have a 16gb CF card and an 8gb SD card installed. My iphone has 32gb, but to get data onto it I have to either sync it with my desktop in iTunes or figure out a way to send it over wireless. With my PDA I can pop the CF card out of the PDA, pop it into a PCMCIA adapter in my laptop, copy my files over and done! Much quicker and simpler. It plays .wmv, .rm .mpg and .avi files with no conversion required thanks to TCPMP and Realplayer for Pocket PC. And there are certain applications like e-wallet and ListPro from Ilium software that are just now available on the iphone platform, that I use daily at work. Downsides compared to my iPhone are battery life, (I carry two spares for this PDA though, which kind of makes up for it) and web browsing is much nicer on the iphone. Pocket Internet Explorer is a real drag, so I never use it. It does do streaming audio well, but leaving the wireless radio on drains the battery pretty quickly. All in all, the iPhone will eventually make carrying this extra device obsolete, but it hasn't happened yet, and I wasn't ready to let it go, so thankfully I was able to replace it at a reasonable price here at ebay.Read full review
It has a nice display, and it's relatively easy to use. I haven't quite gotten it to ActiveSync yet/

Nice and easy to use. Feels very solid. But you notice that todays smart phones have a lot better display quality/resolution.
The Dell Axim x51 is so easy to use, that is, if you are familiar with computers to begin with. I have no major problems/dislikes about this unit. With that said, the annoying things are: an alert keeps popping up indicating the battery cover was unlocked. When I check the lock, it appears to still be in the locked position. My other dislikes, programs keep running, even when you think you closed them out, still trying to figure this one out. This system has Window Mobile 5 - so hopefully things have improved with Windows Mobile 6. Overall, very happy with this item. The little glitches I mentioned, I can deal with.
Bought the unit because older Dell Axims aren't supported with Windows 7. Unit I received is all but brand-new (as advertised); the only thing missing was a separate charge-without-cradle cable that wasn't in the picture of the items offered with the unit. I bought one on eBay shortly after purchasing the unit. Dell PDAs aren't smartphones and don't have massive worlds of apps. They do offer pocket versions of Microsoft Outlook products and operate for days on one charge. It's old technology, but it works great in a pinch and doesn't require monthly service contracts with cell-phone carriers. The wi-fi hooks up well with any available hotspot, including the one I subscribe to with Tmobile for less than $10 a month.
Great for taking notes word & excel make it easy fill in forms & tracking inventory.

Very good PDA, has a lot of features, wireless, GPS, and it is very useful when you are traveling, with a extended battery you can have more hours for movie, music, etc. What can I say ... cheap and very useful ...
I have had this unit for over 7 years and not long ago dropped it which killed the PDA. The replacement I received was more than I expected as it came with a docking station and 2 extended life batteries.
Good quality. Good buy. Quick shipping.
