Set during the later years of World War II, WE'LL MEET AGAIN tells the story of the relationships that develop between a group young women and the squadron of rowdy, gum-popping, oversexed American fighter pilots stationed in their small English village. Tender, nostalgic, and beautifully filmed, this British mini-series explores the dynamics of life and love in the face of incomprehensible destruction.
Not a bad film for another "U.S. Air Force fighting the war out of bases in the English Countryside" flick. Some of the characters were engaging. Suzanna York (usually one of my favorites) looked a bit aged for the leading lady having an affair with a younger American officer. A few twists and turns helped hold your interest in the story. Film editing was often choppy and the color quality lacked softness and was not all that great. Worth your time if you like the romantically slanted war films. Reunion at Fairborough (Mitchum & Kerr) and The War Lover (Wagner & Sally Field) were better films of the same type.
It's a fantastic older program--lovely range of actors and characters, set in a fascinating period. Pretty hard to find to stream, so I'm delighted to have the DVD set.
