A Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 hard drive combines proven components and excellent technology to offer a high-performing hard drive. This 10th generation desktop hard drive offers you great digital storage that features a 7200 RPM motor speed. A generous 8MB high-speed cache and a quick SATA 3Gb/s interface boost this already high RPM speed. This SATA configuration allows you to write to the extra-large capacity of the ST380815AS as if it were a smaller volume. This hard disk meets the demanding requirements of complex environments and applications with perpendicular recording technology. Seagate engineers installed a second layer of material underneath the recording media to double the storage capacity. Even though the ST380815AS is an 80GB HDD, it’s the size of most 40GB drives. This unique configuration also allows the Barracuda to reduce its dependence on moving parts. This, in turn, makes the ST380815AS Barracuda a more reliable device even under heavy use. This 80GB internal hard drive can be used as a second disk. With it, you can download and store multiple games, hundreds of songs, and large movie files.Seagate made sure that the device would have plenty of drive space even if used as a primary boot device. Several top AAA games can comfortably fit on the ST380815AS alongside the Windows operating system. Gamers can experience responsiveness and short search times when using the Seagate Barracuda in this manner. Users of Microsoft system software can format these with the standard NTFS format used by these games. The entire format process should only take a few minutes.Since this volume works with standard serial hardware, you can connect it to your machine with the same cables that are already installed. If you're working with small form-factor components, then it can mount with the hard steel screws in your chassis. Apple machines that accept 3.5-inch disk cases are compatible with these devices as well.Installing this drive into an Apple machine can assist you in assuring greater compatibility later on. While it can take either type of OS X file system, this disk can also work with the APFS structure preferred by OS Sierra. This gives you the ability to use this volume with the newer Macs that accept 3.5-inch cases. If you'd like to use it as a transfer volume, then you could even connect it via an external enclosure. Support for the exFAT standard allows you to transfer files between your Mac and PC over any USB adapter.Users of open-source ecosystems can format this volume quite easily as well. It supports both GUID and MBR partitioning, so you can boot nearly any modern distribution of Linux off it. With support for nearly all extended file system (ext) variants, this is an excellent drive for Linux gamers. Because it works fine with Linux File Allocation Table tools, you could even create a giant FAT32 partition on the volume. This allows you to skirt the FAT32 partition size limitations that rear their head when working with drives of this size. The device provides flexible options for your system.

I took out an old hard drive, which ended up being this exact same one. The old one wouldnt work. The new one, once installed, did not automatically want to take Windows 7 installation. I had to work with it for awhile but managed to get the drive to take Windows 7. Now, it is running perfect. I would recommend it for a replacement drive for sure! It is quiet and fast. Only reason i am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is the issue above.

Seagate Barracuda is a hard disk drive series most of which operate at a spindle speed of 7200 RPM. They are produced by Seagate Technology. Depending on the family they are targeted to desktop/offline or enterprise/nearline applications using various interfaces.(wikipedia) The product works great and is very easy to use. Seems to work with any plug and play functions. I used this hard drive for one of my slim towers pc. I needed something that would be fast but also slient, and this hard drive does the job.

excellent item and great value for its specs
Excellent hard drive, great price for the 7200 rpms and storage size.I,ve been using this kind of hard drive with a transference rate of 3.gb per second in motherboards that suppor 1.5, even if the motherboard is designed for 1.5, these hard drives have better performance than using it with a pci sata controller card, so would definetly recommend it.

Great deal for the price, easy to use and works fine.
Works fine, just plugged it in and put on the new Operating System. No problems. Easy to use. Wanted to use the same kind that had been in the computer to ensure it would work and would be compatible and it was. Just needed a small hard drive for an internet which I never store any files on.

Seagate Barricuda Drowned In It's Environment
A pretty small computer hard drive. That's the good thing about it. However, it jeopardized my information that I put on it because it was rattling and making weird noises. Sometimes, it didn't work at all. I managed to recover all of my files from it before putting it out of commission. End of story! Of course I would not buy it again.

BAD Luck this time but would still use this drive.
I have used this brand for years. The cost was not to be beat. I did have some really bad luck however this time with this 80GB drive. 2 (yes 2) failed within 30 days of purchase. The vendor was SUPER responsive and replaced them immediately. I am not sure why this happened but be sure whoever you buy from stands behind their product. All ended well for me but had the vendor been less ethical I would have been SOL.
