I am surprised at how strong this CPU still is compared to modern CPUs. I use this for encoding and data crunching and it still turns out amazing performance. Only problem is not with the CPU but with the people that still think socket 1366 motherboards are worth 300 dollars... All in all, if you can find a board that supports it for a reasonable price and can live without some modern features then this CPU will surprise you with how well it performs. Make sure to get good quality ram as well as a cooler to help this CPU shine.

These chips are *fantastic* value. LGA 1366 processors are "old" and "outdated" but you can get tremendous performance for an exceptionally low price. I bought these two for $160 and installed them in a recycled server I got for free. I am using it as a compile/build project box for a user group and mixed with 40GB of RAM and some decent disks, it will build an android kernel in about 2 minutes and an entire Lineage OS build in under 1.5 hours. At idle, their power usage is not bad and if you want to save even more money you can go with the X5640 or similar which can be had in matching pairs for $80 or less (as of 6/14/18). 12 core, 24 threads @ 3.33ghz turbo'ing to 3.6 across two cores and 3.46 across a higher core count ++ . I highly recommend LGA 1366 hardware for people on budgets who just need some CPU grunt.Read full review

My experience with this cpu chip is in the context of installing it on an HP Z400 Workstation. This cpu chip is the 2nd fastest you can buy for the Z400 (the fastest costs twice as much) and you get 50% more cpu cores from the lower level cpu chips. To recap you get a 6 core cpu chip w/Hyper Threading that runs faster than your previous cpu and can do more tasks in parallel than your previous cpu chip. This is an LGA 1366 only cpu chip.

Although room for overclocking was not there since I used it in a server, but comparing it to the hexa core newer CPU LGA2011, it has a comparable strength, even better than some E5 1600 QC. It is snappy and takes whatever load you through on it, in a dual CPU i.e. 24 threads. with tons of things being done all at once with no glitch.
