I have loved this book for many years and it has proven very helpful over the years. I updated my older book with this one and find it just as help as the older version. I would highly recommend this book to anyone.

I have used the several times updated "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" for at least the last 15 years. Each time I purchase an updated edition, the old one was passed on to a friend, family member or acquaintance who was waiting anxiously for it. This purchase was made as a gift for a neice. It is a useful guide that comprehensively explains the extremely complex functions of our body in metabolizing our foods and other nutritional sources. All options for nutritional health and healing take into consideration that one should never disregard the use of conventional medications. Drug interaction and health hazards with foods and nutritional and herbal supplements are covered. I have found it useful in caring for a brother with a severe case of diabetes, caring for myself in two years of dealing with cancer and the neative effects of necessary medication, and caring for my family. Additionally, I used this book extensively, in conjunction with a Merck Veterinary Manual, for the 15 years I was involved in animal rescue. In both human and non-human useage it has served an excellent guide when used with dicretion and judgement. I have found no other publication that is as comprehensive and easy to use, i highly recommend it.Read full review
It’s the BIBLE of natural health along with alternative & preventative therapies. I purchased the 2010 addition because our original (1st edition – now over 20 years old) became so tattered and realizing how things do change we wanted to be up-to-date. Has an easy A-Z reference for illnesses (extremely thorough). The drug free remedies using vitamins, minerals, herbs & food supplements can’t be beat. The message in the book has more relevance today than ever… eating of fresh foods, avoiding processed foods plus the ones that are high in saturated fat. In addition you must optimize your intake of essential nutrients with the right supplements too. Highly recommend!
I been using the third edition for at least four or five years now. I grab that book first then go to the other four books, that l have, to see what they say. I buy herbs and put them in capsules for all kind of things that will improve my body, health and mind. I also help people with their problem from time to time with a very big warning that taking more of what l tell them to take is not better it can land them in the hospital. I let them know that it took you years to get to where they are now and taking these herbs is not a magic pill therefor it may take weeks, months or even years to over come that problem. What l like about using herbs is that it only works on one primary thing at a time without any side effects that you sometimes get from taking store bought medicines. Keep in mine that many countries use herbs instead of medicines that we use.Read full review
I like many things about this book & edition. For one, it gives one far more self help info than any Dr. would give or even know to give & includes ODD & RARE conditons. However, if one doesn't cross reference the book in some degree, there might be cautions listed under one section but not mentioned necessarily again in another. This is not good for someone who has no knoweledge of things & dives right in. So, definately cross reference some things. Also, I would have liked to have seen under each listing of vitamins, minerals, herbs etc; ALL that something is good for as well as ALL that it is not good for. For example, Coenzyme A has soooooooooo many benefits, but you have to look under each specific condition that it is recommended for, rather than just what you are seeking to improve. When, while it is listed under vitamins or antioxidants, it could give this expanded list there but doesn't. Though all of it is in the book, it makes one study and cross reference to get a complete understanding. I decided to purchase this book for possible updates to an earlier version. More or less newer warnings & or discoveries. I would recommend this book to someone I believed would do their homework before diving in.Read full review
My mother has sworn by this book for decades. She recently asked me to get her a copy of the latest edition to replace her original 1st printing & was absolutely delighted to see how much more info is in the 5th edition. She asked me to get 2 more copies to give away. So it is on her behalf I write these few words of praise. She has enjoyed a very healthy life and now at 92 years of age she remains mentally alert and interested in life and will likely pass the century mark. She will attribute much of this to the info she's taken from Rx for Nutritional Healing. Best wishes.
Love this book!! It is the third one I have bought throughout the years. It is a treasure trove of natural health information. I have learned so much!!

This book is a great starting point for those who are interested in learning how vitamins and supplements can help remedy specific problems or contribute to general overall health. However, it should be viewed only as a starting point. As I’ve come to learn from my own nutritional counselors, one has to learn how supplements work together, how to take correct dosages for the proper duration, and when to stop. Take the book’s advice and consult with your doctor while taking supplements. I’d add that it’s really important that readers consult with a nutritionist as well.
