Our family loves the Richard Peck series, historical fiction set in the time period of the Great Depression. "A Long Way from Chicago", followed by "A Year Down Yonder" tell the story of Grandma Dowdel, a modern day Robin Hood who knows how to get by, knows how to get even, and also blesses people in the process - even though she claims she "doesn't neighbor". Peck's way with words is quotable, and his plot twists and character development rival Charles Dickens. We were so excited when we found out he wrote this sequel ten years later, "A Season of Gifts", and the new antics of Grandma Dowdel are not dissapointing!!!

Richard Peck is always a good read. My husband and I both enjoyed this book a lot. I also lent it to a friend who has read A Long Way from Chicago.
