Good power and much quieter than the 2 cycle unit. Spend the little Xtra you will be glad you did!

Somewhat difficult to start. Does not run well at mid throttle settings...must use full throttle to cut or trim. It runs very hot durng use. The 4 stroke engines do not have mixture jets that can be adjusted for improved RPM operation and throttle transition. This will be my last 4 stroke trimmer. Built well but doesn't run well. A bit heavy as well. I don't recommend unless you just must have a 4 stroke. The only real convenience is no oil/gas mixing. More recent; After an oil change and some more run time, the trimmer engine performance is improving. After a one week rest, the engine fired on second pull after pressing the primer bulb several times. Mid RPM throttle performance has improved. So, with these improvements, I change my rating to Recommended. I'll update again once I have more run time and there are improvements. So, here is an update at one year of ownership and very light use. I found the source of the difficult starting and low power. The spark plug from the factory was installed with no electrode gap...zero. I'm surprised the engine started at all. I gapped the plug to 0.020" and the engine fires 2nd or 3rd pull, responds well to throttle and has more than adequate power. However, just recently the recoil starter no longer engages the crankshaft and so, the engine cannot be started. Contacted Craftsman warranty number and after providing documentation and photos, they are refunding me the retail price of the trimmer. Some further investigation shows there is a design flaw in the recoil starter system. See the YouTube video. This flaw is not repairable unless the engine is replaced. After repeated use, the engine is no longer turns when operating the starter rope. That means the tool is useless. Too bad. This tool is otherwise well designed, has more than adequate power, starts easily and is economical on fuel. Also, the string head is a clever design that uses either .095 trimmer line or the tougher twisted nylon trimmer line. This model also accepts a variety of attachments making for a versatile system. Craftsman should undertake to do a simple redesign on the rear of the crankshaft where the recoil starter engages when starting the engine. Read full review

It's very good. Just what I wanted. It's a little hard to start without a choke but it still works well.

I love the 4 stroke quick start. Forget the pulling to start this thing up and fire it up with the electric start. It's the true ticket for easy starting every time.
