Cold Cuts
A woman driven past the edge by revenge destroys a man seeking redemption. Like a big budget film noir this story drags the reader through a world that Tolkien's toughest couldn't handle. Carl Shivers, the Northman, struggling to "become something better" loses himself when he falls in love with our heroine(?) who is recuperating from an assassination attempt that left her beloved brother dead and her crippled. Abercrombie skillfully weaves characters from his First Law trilogy into this standalone tale giving his fans an expanded view into interesting lives of former secondary characters.
