The boot itself is too rigid to stretch over the shifter. The Ford product is more flexible and easy to install. With the Doorman, one would have to remove the shifter from the column.

The problem is that the boot will not stay snapped into the matching notches on the steering column. I noticed that the rubber on the replacement boot is quite a bit thicker than the original. As a result, when the lever is moved there is not enough yield in the material and this tension causes the boot to pop out. I'll have to glue it

This part is a aftermarket item and it does not stay in place. What a waste of money.
