An excellent book. I possess a few copies. As a reader you do not have to always agree to what the interpretations are, however with the Sanskrit text and the transliteration / translation, you can sum up much of what has been conveyed. Like any book of its time, it has to be read in that context. The language - spoken or written was very simple and precise when the Bhagavad-Gita was composed. Abstractions, analogies, aphorisms were unheard of then – so its wise to stay away from any such figures of speech. There is nothing dogmatic about a vedic scripture, and the Bhagavad-Gita should be read in that spirit. Choose the parables that make sense and are still vibrant and ignore those that do not. To have survived so many thousands of generations there is a lot in it that makes perfect sense; the interpretations are sometimes uncalled for.Read full review
A beautiful story I'm this wonderfully packaged hard cover version, including original Sanskrit writings and English translation. Illustrations are well placed. A great read for anyone interested in yoga, spirituality or just a wonderful story of how life unfolds and how many times making the right decision may involve doing things that seem counterproductive.

This is a nice sturdy hardcover book, with an attached red ribbon to keep your page. Mine didn't have a dust jacket and the cover image is similar to the one pictured. There are many different versions of this book. Most of them are quite large (around 900 pages), as is this one. Being this is the only copy I own; I can't compare it to other versions. Most of the text is an attempt to interoperate the ancient writings, which takes up the majority of the book.

this is by far the best book for reading the bhagavagita. it ok for beginners and advanced students. it gives the original script, a phonetic transliteration, a translation and then commentary. if you’ve never read the gitas, this is where you should start. read this before reading the vedic hymns
