Gets the dirty job done in clay soils
Good mole trap. I already owned several mole traps for years, one of this jaws type (same model) and a couple other of the pitchfork type. The jaws type, like this one, has caught many more moles than the pitchfork type has in my yard, primarily because my soil has a lot of clay in it, and when it's dry, the soil gets hard and the pitchfork type of trap is then unable to penetrate it fully to spear the mole (the trap springs, but the pitchfork end doesn't penetrate the hard ground more than an inch, so the mole gets away.) The pitchfork type only seems to work when the soil is very moist, or loamy (which mine definitely isn't). On the other hand, this jaws type of trap works in those dry conditions with harder clay soils, because you only need to open and close the jaws fully while the trap is inserted into the ground, and that creates a sort of loose path in the soil right where the jaws would move while snapping shut. Because I've found this jaws style trap to be much more effective in harder clay soils like mine, I bought a couple more recently when the mole population exploded this spring, as they were tearing up the lawns very quickly and I wanted to put an end to that asap. The traps are solid, very strong metal, very durable, no plastic whatsoever. They come painted black, which I found can be a little hard to see when the grass is tall or there is little sunlight, so I spray painted the above-ground portion of my traps white. That helps prevent people from not seeing them and tripping over them, or worse, running the lawnmower over them.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Not what it used to be
This used to be a really good product. Now they have cheapened it and it no longer works nearly as well. The box still states it is made of cast iron and steel, but the frame is now aluminum and the trip pan, trip rod and connecting pin are steel. The spring is now so weak you can set it by hand It might work in really sandy soft soil, but in anything else it just clamps the dirt, it doesn't have the closing force to clamp through heavy or slightly rocky soil like the old ones did. To use this one you have to dig a hole and set it, then cover it back up making sure there is nothing but soft soil between the jaws. The old one you could just shove it in over the tunnel and it worked.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

I like the trap. Still learning on the best way to set the trap to ensure that it doesn't miss the critter. When I first started using it, I was missing a lot of them, but since I started using a "Hair trigger", I have had better luck. I have been experimenting with how deep to set it in relation to the depth of the mole tunnel. Cleared out moths in almost 24 hours
Had some moths hatch out of the dogs milk bones and someone told me to try these types of moth traps. This set of 12 were just a little more than the price of 2-4 at the local big box store. One of the few that work
Once you can narrow down the location they work great. One problem however; I needed to attach a chain and stake it to the ground. If I didn't the coyotes would dig the dead mole overnight and run off with it with the trap still attached. I lost 2 traps that way.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

This product is well built lam still learning to locate active trails and properly place the trap but when I do look out miles.
