Plugged it into the PCI slot, attached it to (4) 2TB HDDs (max my BIOS would support), booted the system and it worked like a charm. The only reason for not giving it 5 stars is that since installing it I'm not seeing the usual prompts for entering into the various pre-boot utilities for my MB. I'm using it with a Dell Precision T5500 WorkStation, and there are times I really do need to be able to access those. I haven't verified if I can pull them up anyway, or if connecting the boot drive to this controller would make them show up again, or if it's just not possible if I'm using this add-on card. This PCI to Sata Controller Adapter Card is incompatible with any computer and not worth purchasing! Once I put the damn thing in my system, it kicked off the power and smoked came out of my mother board, no BS. I had the MB checked out by a reputable Tech and the card was the culprit my MB was fried and I had to purchase another MB from EBAY. I purchased another MB and its on my profile. The Tech stated that more than likely, the board was probably tested bad but instead of taking necessary action to take it out of circulation, they just put it out for sale and did not quality test the Controller Adapter Card before the sale so they would not lose money. No telling how many like this is being sold.

Ok . Keep in mind this is an older card , that does not mean it will not work . Installs on Windows 10 PERFECT . If you use the card itself to format (card bios) the hard drive , Windows 10 may not see it when it boots up . Instead , either use the Windows 10 install disc to format it , or a 3rd party program . I also partitioned a 1 TB into 2 sections for ease of use , so I can't say if the card bios sees over 1 TB or not , just a heads up . There are many old threads you can find online about the chipset used on the card and Bios updates (used to improve functions , and see larger hard drives) ; however , the companies will probably not have legacy programs / bios around anymore . Would I recommend it ? Well , It's a really good price . It did not need any additional drivers for Windows 10 (in my case) . It adds 4 Sata ports to older hardware (My video card was blocking sata ports in a micro setup , my own workaround , seeing as how the pcie was spoken for) . I'd say go for it , if you have an older system running upto Windows 10 .Read full review

I bought this card for a retro gaming PC so I could install an SSD SATA hard drive. The only difficulty was that I needed to use nLite to modify the OS ISO to place the drivers on the disc, but after that, it worked great! Now my Windows XP retro gaming PC has a solid state hard drive, and performs great!

this is a RAID SATA controller, did not work for me as a replacement for iffy onboard SATA port; arrived as a loose item in a usps plastic envelope which gave little confidence that it would be functional, but it did show up OK in the device manager - just did not work for my needs
