I only used it to do a test run. I plugged it into my computer and had no clue it was downloading my area in which I live. Nothing came across the screen to prompt me of the downloading. The next day I plugged it into my car and BINGO it turned on and knew just where I was! I hope it works this well and so very responsive for sometime. I will be testing it this weekend to see if it's really as good as I hope it is! Magellan has the easiest programing when it comes to GPS'S.

This is an average GPS unit for GPS units made prior 2011. It is not upgradable without a fee, but for the going price of the unit used, it is a good bargin. I give it a lower rating on ease of use only for the touch display......it requires a bit more effort on the touch display than most other GPS units...basically you have to 'touch harder' as it is not sensitive at all....some folks may like this, but I don't. It boots up and locates itself just as fast as the later models in the 100-200 dollar range and has all the bells that most models have, but dosn't have the 'change lane' feature, an dosn't have the free upgrades. I got this unit used for my son whom needed one and niether one of us had much to spare for a new model. He will be using it for commercial use, mostly main roads and such, so I'm confident it will serve him well.Read full review
I really like the Magellan 1420. This is my first gps so I don't have much to compare it to. One thing about this one I don't like is I can't seem to set the correct time. The second thing is when you are traveling in an area with construction, it does not compensate for closed roads or detours. I'm not sure if any do. I just know I would get really lost if I didn't know my area somewhat. I do love that I can get the quickest route, or choose to avoid highways or tollways. Generally, I will never get lost again. Well worth the peace of mind.
I previously owned the Magellan Roadmate 2200T Model and was very impress with it,so I purchased the 1420 model and REALLY impress with it accept ONE negative, the battery isn't good as the 2200t,and the 1420 has to be connected at all times in the vehcle, where the 2200t model lasts about five hours without a charge. Over all the 1420 is a good buy,for clearness in the screen, loud alarms, very friendly user, and POI out of this world, and I think it stands out from the other GPS system, which is only my opinion.
There nothing bad about this GPS ......Out of box to using it VERY SIMPLE ....Went on YouTube for some knowledge....Huge Quality .......... I just purchased another One for my parents as a gift .... That's the confidence I have in this Easy to Use Unit
