I purches The Phantom on VHS years ago and always enjoyed it. Yes, VHS. Now, I did graduate from a VHS player, to a DVD player, and now, a Blue Ray player (and HD TV). Somehow, The Phantom never made it into my DVD collection. Now was the time to get it for the Blue Ray. I enjoyed the movie as much as I did years ago. Billy Zane is fantastic it this film. The Phantom doesn't take it's self seriously. It's just fun and that's what I enjoy about this film. Even the villian Drax doesn't seem to be an evil guy. The phantom is a good family film. As for a Blue Ray, it doesn't stand out too well. It has just as much detail as I remember the VHS having. The special features is a bit lacking. It's a basic Blue Ray edition. Simple. If you love Billy Zane movies, this is one to have (in fact, I would be suprized that you wouldn't have this one if you where a fan). It's a comic strip/serial brought to film.Read full review
Light and well-made, this film has a terrific lead and an Indiana Jones-style plotline. As a fan of The Phantom newspaper strip, I was bowled over by the attention to detail and nostalgic feel this movie achieves. There should have been many sequels and if this film were made today, perhaps there would have been.I cannot overstate how charming Billy Zane is in the lead role and unlike many other superheroes, you can tell that he really got into shape for this part. The Phantom is solid entertainment throughout.

This isn't the best movie of all time, the acting at times leaves something to be desired and you may find yourself wondering how can they not known he's the phantom? That being said this movie definitely falls into the category of a feel good action comedy. The hero is "witty", kicks arse, and gets the girl. The bad guy is cruel, witty, and hell bent on taking over the world. It's an older movie based on something even older, but I always liked it as a movie I could put in and simply enjoy for it's humor, and action.
Better picture view on bluray than regular dvd.

The Phantom-The Ghost who walks....what a cool concept. Exotic land, wild animals, villains and a masked hero....does it get any better?! Wow...the stories portrayed are early Americana lore. The Phantom is a great character, standing for good...defeating pirates, greed and corruption. Bily zane looks great as the Phantom. Catherine Zeta Jones is beautiful...love her character. A worthy addition to anyone's DVD library. Enjoy!
