Have only tried this out for ice fishing a few times but really love what it does! You have to make sure that you push the cord into the hand held unit very well because if you don't, it doesn't work. Can't wait to try this from shore, the dock & on our boat! Still trying to get the sensitivity levels set right so have been playing with that. I really liked the fact that you can use it more than just two ways and can use it 3 ways on the boat. We do a lot of shore & dock fishing so it will come in handy for that too. First time I tried it was at a small pit loaded with perch and was very surprised at the number of fish I was seeing! Was hoping that I hadn't waisted $40 on something that wouldn't work but I've been very happy with it so far! I used this unit in canada...mostly it just didn't work. Occasionally it would read depth shooting through the hull.. about 5% of the time. The float method did not read at all. Spend a couple hundred dollars and get a real fish finder, this isn't even a good bathtub toy!

Bought this Hawkeye fish finder a few weeks ago and have not had a chance to actually use it and test it out until now.I am vacationing down at the Chesapeake Bay, Point Lookout, MD. and have been doing alot of fishing trying out my new purchase. All I can say is that I am very happy, it works perfect, just as advertised. Depth readings are accurate and constant, as well as the bottom type readings. The unit picks up fish activity and works fine on the next to the lowest sensitivity level. I really like the fact that it can be used in the side scan mode, making it useful to locate fish away from me off in the fringe areas. I fish off a kayak and this is just perfect. Tip to all... instead of buying the oppontional float kit for the cable, make your own like I did out of wine bottle corks. The synthetic ones are the best. Drill a hole the size of the cable length wise through the stopper, use a utility razor knife and split down the side, half way deep to the hole that you drilled through the center. Spread the stopper open an fit cable in the channel that you drilled. Next, put a small wire tie around the stopper and cinch it down. I made five of them and spaced them about a foot apart. I found red and white stoppers which really looks cool. These hawkeye fish finders are hard to find, seem like everyone is sold out, probably due to the low cost and pretty good reveiws....
