I am very fond of films where the protagonist is caught in an endless loop. He or she has an experience where something goes horribly wrong, then suddenly time seems to rewind and events repeat themselves. Is tragedy inevitable, or is it possible to change one small detail and make things come out right? In the case of TRIANGLE, a woman named Jess is shipwrecked with some friends. They climb aboard an ocean liner that appears to be uninhabited --- until Jess finds the dead bodies of her friends, an alternate murderous version of herself, and then sees yet another version of herself climbing aboard the liner with her friends, now alive --- but apparently doomed to die again and again unless Jess finds a way to stop the carnage. Melissa George is thoroughly convincing as Jess in all her incarnations. The cinematography is great, and the killings are realistically bloody (but not unneccessarily prolonged or gory). Why 4 stars instead of 5? Jess, supposedly a loving single mother, is very quick to draw the conclusion that murder is the only way to escape the loop, despite ample evidence that multiple murders haven't helped in the past. At several points in the action I could think of other approaches Jess might have taken. Maybe they would have failed, but I would have liked her to at least TRY something less bloodthirsty. Also, if we've learned ANYTHING from horror/thriller movies, it's this: when you're with a group of people exploring an abandoned house, mental hospital, or ship, for Pete's sake STAY TOGETHER! Do not EVER split up!Read full review
A great creepy movie that keeps building to a great climax and ‘ending’… It’s extremely well thought out and the cinematography is superb. I fell in love with this movie right away. The psychological mind job is no joke and awesome!!
