Film, as well as video, often exhibits a greater sensitivity to what is to us invisible, ultraviolet light. This is most often outdoors, especially at high altitudes, where the UV-absorbing atmosphere is thinner; and over long distances, such as marine scenes. It can show up as a bluish color cast with color film, or it can cause a low-contrast haze that diminishes details, especially when viewing far-away objects, in either color or black-and-white. Ultraviolet filters absorb UV light generally without affecting light in the visible region. It is important to distinguish between UV-generated haze and that of air-borne particles, such as smog. The latter is made up of opaque matter that absorbs visible light as well as UV, and will not be appreciably removed by a UV filter.SKY 1-A is a popular general use protection filter. A pretty good filter
This is a Skylight 1A type filter. The specific use for such a filter is this. I found that on my Olympus OMD bodies that some of the Panasonic micro4/3s zoom lens produced a bit of purple fringing/chromatic aberration. I read on a few web sites that the 1A or 2A filters, Tiffen was suggested, did a nice job of removing the purple fringing. I tried the Tiffen 2A and certainly the purple fringing vanished. I think the 1A is almost as good. So I have ended up using the Tiffen 1A and 2A on my Panasonic zooms lens for my Olympus bodies. Images are very nice and colors are pleasant and no more purple fringing.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
