The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a feathered line between the density and clear areas. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and the 0.6 density provides a 2-stop reduction in light from entering the lens.

About this product

Product Information

Often you want to balance light intensity between two areas within a scene. This is important outdoors to allow more sky details while properly exposing the foreground. Exposing for the foreground will produce a washed-out, over-exposed sky, exposing for the sky will leave the foreground dark, underexposed.Color-Grad Neutral Density filters are part clear, part neutral density, with a smoothly graded transition between. A Color-Grad ND.6-to-clear is often best for balancing sky to foreground. Neutral gray appearance drop exposure.

  • Quality item. I just wish the "horizon" was at the 1/3 mark instead of the 1/2 mark. It is a shame that these fixed type filters are not.

A very good filter made of glass instead of easily scratched plastic. My only gripe is that this, like other fixed/ screw in graduated filters is that the shading starts at the 1/2 way point instead of 1/3 of the way up from the bottom since this type of filter is generally used to tone down the sky early/ late in the day. A perfectly centered horizon is generally not desirable for such scenic shot. But it sure beats having a fragile sliding plate type when spending a great deal of time outdoors where dust gets between exposed layers of glass or the glass plate can be dropped on rocks only to shatter.
