Hoya 62mm Infrared R72 Glass Filter from 760nm and 860nm. Hoya 62mm Infrared R72 Glass Filter., Filter case, Hoya 1-year Limited Warranty. Infrared light starts in the high-red area of the visible spectrum at around 750nm and goes up beyond 1000nm.
Certainly the most referenced filter for ir photography, the Hoya R72 passes the right balance of visible and infrared light. The filter has very uniform properties and is well constructed. Probably more of a concern is the lens to which it is attached, as many lenses create "hot spots" due to their coatings. Trial and error will help you find not only the right lens but also the correct f stop, which also affects this frequent problem. Infrared photography can be further enhanced through post processing with a program capable of selectively swapping and/or eliminating the three (R, G and B) color channels. Infrared is an interesting and unique facet of photography made easy and fun with the advent of the digital camera. Remember, a larger diameter filter can be made to fit smaller lenses with the use of inexpensive step-up rings. The step-UP ring allows the smaller diameter thread on the front of the lens to STEP UP to the larger diameter thread of the filter. Have fun with this new adventure! edcburas2010
