After many years away from playing, I was lucky enough to inherit a collection of about 30 highly desirable vintage guitars, mostly electric. The urge to start playing again was impossible to resist. Now the problem was that I wasn't sure which quality amp to invest in to complement the broad range of guitars I now owned and the varied styles and genres I enjoyed playing. That's not to mention which effects to buy. I knew I could spend a fortune experimenting. It was just a hobby after all at this point. After a little research and thinking, I decided to go the route of an effects processor and get an RP500. The plan was to use it with a small Yamaha PA system I had purchased for business use. I was immediately impressed. Problem solved! I was up and playing getting all the sounds I wanted with tons of room to grow! Then, I ran across an RP1000 on sale for about the same price as the RP500 within time to make the exchange. The RP1000 was a better solution for my money. The primary difference between the two being an extra row of foot switches which allow you to move between pre-sets AND switch effects on and off at the same time. The RP1000 also has a 20 second looper, which if it were say 5 minutes would make the RP1000 perfect for my use. But overall, it offers incredible versatility with excellent modeling of all of the amps, cabs, and effects. It's not perfect, but it saved me $1000's and I'm sure cut the time in finding my favorite sounds by months or even years. Now, with what I've learned, I can invest my money in the right amp and effects more wisely. About the RP100 itself. First, its built like a tank. I especially like the fact that it works with my computer for a better interface to all of the options and saving the individual modeling setups. I doubt it would be satisfactory for the studio, but I can easily see it working perfect for gigs. It greatly accelerated the learning process for mean I'd definitely recommend it for any beginner or someone like me coming back to the guitar. One last word, the PA works great especially for the stereo effects. I'm thinking that a bigger/better PA is all I would really need at this point. I've also heard that the Tech 21 amps are ideal for this kind of setup because they provide only the power amp side with a guitar cabinet thus not coloring any of the RP1000 as the pre-amp side with a guitar specific speaker. The Rp1000 has plenty of presets, and numerous effects. I have used one for years, but got damaged, so needed another one..There pretty simple to make presets, and have pleanty of in and outputs. These are very nice pedals.

I bought this Product to replace a Digitech GNX4 as I had been reading about the Better amp/Cab Models especially where it comes to Metal Music. LIKES: I will say the Amp/Cab Models are much better then the Factory GNX4's, The Distortion Options just blow the GNX4 away Very Impressed with that. I like the Feature where you can add your own Stompbox or Boxes with the Stomp Loop Feature (Although I have not tried it yet but will soon) The Case is Extremely heavy duty and the Foot Switches appear to be Heavy Duty also which is a great thing if you do alot of Gigging or alot of Preset Changes or enabling/Disabling Effects. The onboard Tuner appears to be a bit more accurate and easier to get proper tuning with then the GNX4. DISLIKES: I am not impressed with the Lack of 1/4" Stereo Inputs as I liked that Feature of the GNX4 I Feel the Compressor's, The Noise Gate and the Delay are not as good as the Ones on the GNX4. One feature missing that I would of thought would be on this unit is the ability to have a preset bounceback( where say you start with a Metal preset then go to a Clean preset and all you would have to do is hit the same button you did to get the clean and you would be back on teh Metal Preset again) The lack of that makes you have to remeber which button exactly was the previous preset and move your foot over to hit that button which can easily cause you to mess up and select the wrong preset. One other Huge Feature I will miss was the Warp feature and the dual amp setup on the GNX4 where Like a normal Guitar amp you can have one channel a Distortion channel and one Clean and just switch between them without having to change the preset which makes you have to set the effects identical on 2 seperate presets where whith the amp change all you changed was the amp effects stayed the same and you could even set it to have a Massive distortion on one amp and a little crunch on a different amp on same preset, The warp feature was cool where you coudl take 2 amps say Metal and combine them to get a specific tone and then save thatwarped amp as its own amp to use at a later time it really gave you a alot of Tweakability. FINAL THOUGHTS: All In all I like this Unit better due to the much better Distortion, Amp/Cab Models. I gave it a 4/5 due to the Dislikes I mentioned and the fact that with the MFXSupermodels Upgraded Amp/Cab Models the GNX4 comes real close to the quality of the RP 1000. I will keep using the RP1000 over the GNX4 but I believe they could of made a Much superior Product had they just added a few (not even all) of the Dislikes I mentioned, Especially for the amount of money these are listed for. But I am still glad i got one and Hopefully as I use it I get better at fine tuning and get better Tone and I hope once i try the Stompbox Loop it lives up to its expectation.Read full review
I am an active musician, im in a hard rock band in the middle of recording our first album and gigging quite often lately. You can get just about any sound you want out of this pedal! i noticed that my distortions are a lot cleaner and sound a good bit more professional live and on recordings. I love how you can preset volumes for each channel and if needed, use the wah pedal as a volume control pedal. What i like most about this pedal would have to be the noisegate though; it is not the best but it works very well, you just have to spend a lot of time in finding the sweet spot of cutting out buzz and noise but still keeping enough for feedback, when needed, and squeals. Also the clean sounds you can get while using a light chorus, reverb, and a faint delay is mind blowing; best clean sounds i've ever heard.Read full review
Overall the DigiTech RP1000 Multi Effects Switching system is a great unit. I use it every week when I play in my church band. It works great with the church's sound system and it's nice to be able to incorporate my own stomp pedals. There are three characteristics that I do not like. (1) is that when you switch between presets, effects like delays do not transfer over. (2) when using the looper, you can only use one preset. Meaning that if I am play a rhythm section on a clean channel and want to play lead using a OD channel or distortion, the recorded rhythm changes to the OD and is no longer clean. This is useless to me. The 3rd main issue I have is the built-in Wah/Expression pedal. It uses a soft switch instead of a hard on/off switch. So its very easy to activate the Wah by accident. Not cool during a show. I have chosen to just tape it closed with the Wah off. Aside from these three issues, I really do love the unit and have been able to work around the cons. I simply do not use the looper or the wah pedal. Instead, i've decided to use my DigiTech Jam Man Solo for looping and I plan to purchase a Cry Baby wah to use in front of the RP1000 in the chain. Also with the ability to incorporate the use of other pedals, I'm able to work around the preset delay issues. On a scale from 1 - 10, I give the RP1000 an 8 which is pretty good considering the price point and the number of effects it comes with and its versatility.Read full review
