I love Tube Screamers, and found that the Maxon OD808 and OD-9 gave me the tonalities which I'd been looking for. I bought the Maxon Custom Shop limited edition pedals, and they're incredible. After going further down the rabbit hole, I bought the Cult 1980 OD-9. All the stock Maxon 808/9 units are killer. If you want to pay a lot more for the Custom Shop gear, you get an extra few % better tone, but the difference is barely noticeable. A great player with a well sorted guitar, amp and a stock Maxon will sound stellar. If you're going to buy a T/S, forget Ibanez, go for Maxon. Clear, crisp, addictive tone.

Sd9 by Maxon is a great pedal, especially for a darker amp or guitar. I enjoyed it but found it a bit harsh. But I am more of an overdrive person. It does have a lot of gain on tap and is very well built. If you can pick one up cheep. Then I would.

This is a Maxon clone of the Ibanez TS-9 Overdrive pedal. This pedal will NOT give you over the top saturation. What it will do is give your guitar that "just right" fat overdrive without losing your guitar's natural tone.I bought this because I somehow lost my Ibanez TS-9 on a gig. Found this one on ebay and thought I'd try it. Well, I was pleasantly surprised that I like it even better than the Ibanez! And the Ibanez is a great pedal too. The TS-9 was a favorite of Stevie Ray and when you try one you'll know why. Natural tube amp overdrive.
KILLER! I had an original TS-808 that I traded for a Uni Vibe years ago and I have tried all kinds since trying to find that sound with out spending $1200. Most are really bad and the rest are short of the mark. You have nailed that sound in spades!I'm a tone whore ( there I said it) and I must thank you for this pedal. The Maxon OD-9 with your work is the best I have come across. I know my search is over for the original 808 sound and feel. So any one looking for THAT tone. Buy this pedal...then buy a back up just in case someone pawns it on you! Just a Megadeth joke.... Chris Poland
The best thing about this pedal is the dynamic contours you can generate with it. Play softly, and you are rewarded with gentle break up, harmonic-rich tones; dig in, and the notes smoosh together just like they should. Smooth overdrive. The pedal is ridiculously versatile compared to the boxy Ibanez reissue. It doesn't destroy your tone when it is off due to true bypass, and if you turn the gain knob all the way done, tone at center, it can effectively be a volume boost with the level chosen at your discretion. No clicks, no hums, just sturdy construction. You get what you paid for, and more.
Was surprised that it came in so soon. Came right before a last minute gig. Happy and satisfied customer

Very good sound and quality, exactly the over drive sound I was looking for, you cannot go wrong with the Maxon OD9, very satisfied with purchase.

Best thing about this pedal is the true bypass. Turn it off and the cleans sound the same without the pedal. The distortion is fairly smooth and tightens up a "metal" sound quite a bit. Instead of the mush of notes being played together its easier to hear the difference between each note. Also if your looking for those "killswitch engage" pinch harmonics, this will bring those out quite a bit. Great pedal and very road worthy.
More or less the original Ibanez TS9 - as far as I know Maxon were the original manufacturers then the pedals were rebadged as Ibanez products.

Using it as a boost for a 5150III. I'd put the OD9 my 2nd favorite next to the OD808.
