I have occasionally been annoyed by reading a five-star review from a Buyer who has had his new Item for three days and is still smitten over winning the Auction. I must admit that I have only had this particular guitar for a few weeks -- but cut me a break, its my SECOND Broadway. I purchased my other Broadway several years ago, and played it until some sleazy thief decided that he deserved it more than I did. But I was free of the Broadway and still chose to acquire another. That alone says volumes about the guitar. Being objective, the Broadway's greatest asset is its greatest liability: the Frequensator Tailpiece. This split tailpiece has three strings attached to each segment. The two segments are different lengths, resulting in a variance in tension between the Bass Strings and the Treble. Although this arrangement can simplify certain techniques while playing, it also contributes to adverse playing Arrangements: the guitar can slip out of tune quickly and suddenly you're not playing the Notes that were transcribed on the Sheet Music. It takes a better-skilled guitarist than me to adapt to that when performing in public in the middle of a song. Still, although it was a common-enough occurrence for me to recollect it afterwards, it wasn't so common an occurrence for me to have trashed the Broadway while I still had it -- and I had a Guild, a Gibson, and a pair of Martins to select from when I chose the axe I'd use for the evening's entertainment. Tone of the Broadway covers a significant range, as each Humbucker (Neck and Bridge) has a separate control. Action is as good as, or better than, nearly any Hollowbody Electric I have owned. This guitar is large and heavy -- a consideration for some Players who might have issues based purely upon their physical characteristics and endurance.Read full review
I can honestly say the Broadway is a worthy Jazz guitar. It reminds me of the Gibson L5-CES. The difference is it will not break the bank and it's a pressed top not carved. You can do minor upgrades to take it to the next level if you'd like! I suggest taking it in to a good luthier for a good setup and you will be happy.
